As one of the largest networks in the world, Walmart has the need to keep our associates connected at all times while in and around our stores and distribution centers, as well as enable next-generation automation technology such as robotics. This poses unique scale challenges not seen anywhere else. With growing needs from a bandwidth and resiliency perspective, finding the best ways to balance using current technology and playing an integral role in the design and development of new technologies is key to our success. Walmart has unique needs from a Network Telemetry and Automation perspective, and we need a Senior Director to lead the teams that design and develop these systems.
Job Description Summary
As a Senior Director of Software Engineering (Network), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our products and systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, such as wired and wireless network engineering, mentor and guide engineering professionals, and drive innovation to deliver high-quality, scalable, and robust wireless connectivity across Walmart.
About the Global Technology Network Architecture Team:
The Network Architecture team is primarily responsible for the design of Walmart’s network environments, as well as escalation for complex networking problems when needed. Within Global Tech, we support and are supported by talented teams specializing in implementation and operation of our wired, wireless, data center networking, and interconnection. As a Fortune #1 company, our work impacts millions of associates globally. We strive to continuously improve people technology and products to help managers and associates so they can focus on what matters most - supporting our customers and members.
What you'll do:
- Lead the global network automation and telemetry teams at Walmart
- Understand and explore our various networks – from stores, to distribution and fulfillment centers, to campuses
- Work cross-functionally with the entire Platforms organization to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and execute on development efforts
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a high performing and collaborative team culture
- Do proof-of-concepts and provide strategic and technical recommendations
- Stay at the forefront of technological advancements, conducting research to identify emerging tools and methodologies
- Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders on specific product areas
- Collaborate with product and business leaders throughout the company to ensure that technology initiatives align with business needs
- Document architectural decisions, design patterns, policies, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing across the broader organization
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (5 years) as a Senior Architect or in a similar leadership role within a technology-driven organization and experience (5 years) as a people manager.
- Extensive knowledge of software architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices.
- Expertise in cloud computing platforms, such as Azure or Google Cloud, and related technologies.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as Java, C#, or Python.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing large-scale, complex architectural projects from conception to implementation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges.
- Proven ability to effectively lead and motivate teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

- Option 2: 9 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
