Vertafore is a leading technology company whose innovative software solutions are advancing the insurance industry. Our suite of products provides solutions to our customers that help them better manage their business, boost their productivity and efficiencies, and lower costs while strengthening relationships.

Our mission is to move InsurTech forward by putting people at the heart of the industry. We are leading the way with product innovation, technology partnerships, and focusing on customer success.

As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will shape and improve the experience of key Vertafore customers. You will work cross-functionally across Vertafore, including Customer Support, Account Management, Product Management, and Product Development to help guide customers and also contribute to the future growth of your team.

You will work with a fast-paced, skilled team of business analysts, conversion engineers, developers, and quality assurance engineers across multiple high-profile projects. Much of your success in this role will depend upon timely, clear, concise, and effective verbal and written communication along with developing solutions that fully meet customer expectations with no/minimal defects or rework.

Although not a primary duty compared to developing and supporting code, a software engineer at Vertafore also works directly with customers as part of a cross-functional team. This means you need to be a proactive self-starter, able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and be service-focused to help nurture the customer experience. Additionally, you're a mentor and consultant, as well as a customer champion within Vertafore.

Core Requirements and Responsibilities:

  1. Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient applications using Java/Spring Boot and React.js.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
  3. Ensure optimal performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
  4. Identify and resolve bottlenecks and bugs.
  5. Maintain code quality, organization, and automation.
  6. Participate in code reviews and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  7. Stay current with the latest industry trends and technologies.
  8. Innovate and craft clean, maintainable code.
  9. Confidently communicate technical concepts to others and recommend appropriate solutions, whether custom or a mix of custom and core Vertafore products.
  10. Assist product owners by reviewing request information and documenting solution designs that align with customer expectations and business objectives.
  11. Document, architect, and develop forward-thinking technical specifications and solutions based on business requirements.
  12. Optimize query performance and tune indexes.
  13. Develop automated deployment solutions as needed.
  14. Deploy solutions in non-production environments and assist with Vertafore production releases.
  15. Work in small teams, completing tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
  16. Mentor and lead junior developers and provide proactive feedback to senior leadership.
  17. Drive and manage design conversations for features based on business needs.
  18. Create and define valuable artifacts and documents for the team and external stakeholders.
  19. Introduce new approaches, languages, and technologies into the team as applicable.
  20. Develop new features and support/bug fix existing ones.
  21. Ensure the quality of code within the team, whether written or reviewed.
  22. Contribute to defining and enforcing software development procedures, standards, and methodologies.
  23. Act as a role model and mentor for other team members, both technically and culturally.
  24. Follow industry trends and engage with the open-source community.
  25. Interact with stakeholders to gather insights and translate technical concepts.

Vertafore is a Flexible First working environment which allows team members to work from home as often as you’d like, while using our offices as a place for collaboration, community, and teambuilding. There are times you may be asked to come into an office and/or travel for specific meetings for a specific business purpose and this varies by job responsibilities.
