Responsibilities

  1. Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure in Terraform for Quip and Slack products.
  2. Evaluate, implement, and maintain high-quality tools and processes to maintain highly secure and observable infrastructure and environments.
  3. Clear verbal and written communication to consult with engineering partners to properly scale and maintain cost structures to align with infrastructure utilization.
  4. Use your deep desire to reduce toil to create product and infrastructure stability.

What You Should Have

  1. Deep experience with cloud providers AWS preferred (VPC/Subnet design, IAM, WAF, ECR, ECS, EKS, RDS, Aurora).
  2. A deep understanding of Unix/Linux system administration.
  3. Deep experience with Terraform.
  4. Experience with in-memory data stores.
  5. Your career and skills with development and/or systems has been honed professionally for 7+ years.
  6. You are a strong communicator. Explaining complex technical concepts to program managers, customer support, and other engineers are no problem for you.
  7. You are experienced with creating internal tools, understand the software development lifecycle, and have a bias towards automation to eliminate toil.
  8. You are someone that others enjoy working with due to your positive attitude and technical competence.
  9. You are a team player and get motivated by helping other engineers succeed. When things break — and they will — you are eager and able to help fix things. You like thinking of ways to improve efficiency or bring delight to the people you work with.
  10. You are a self-starter and problem solver encouraged by continuous improvement and learning.
  11. You are motivated by finding optimizations that reduce costs, improve efficiency, and support the long term viability of your team and organization.
  12. Experience with containerization (ECS, Docker, and Kubernetes).
  13. A firm grasp of computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, distributed systems, and information retrieval.

Bonus Points

  1. You have deep experience with Redis clustering.
  2. Experience implementing single sign-on systems.
  3. Experience implementing tools using Lambda.
  4. Experience managing Kubernetes (EKS).
  5. You’ve used Slack and Quip and are excited to make them better.
