About our group:
Servo Engineering's primary mission is to provide robust ultra-precision position control technologies Firmware and servo hardware architectures, to enable aggressive advancement in high performance HDD density growth. The team also serves a critical HDD Systems role, working closely with and enabling other functions in the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Recording Technology, Customer Interface, Manufacturing, and Reliability. In this role you will be part of the Servo Engineering Group and will develop firmware to support new hardware, features to enable higher density, servo hardware architectures and innovation to enable Seagate's future roadmap.
About the role - you will:
  • Solve challenging multidisciplinary technical problems and Servo Firmware / Hardware design to ensure a sustainable roadmap for HDD Areal Density & Performance growth.
  • Focus on Servo Firmware and Electronics. In particular:
    • Develop and Implement in HDD solutions addressing the design problems
    • Develop algorithms and firmware to support Servo Electronics including new SoC features, Servo Demodulation, Servo Systems and other areas of hardware and related firmware.
    • Perform design validation and verification;
  • Participate in cutting edge technology development in Hard Disc Drive Servo Firmware and Electronics Architectures
  • Work in an open-minded environment which
    • supports and fosters Innovation.
    • supports solutions deployment in Factory for successful product development on a high volume manufacturing scale.

Successful Servo Development Engineers have excellent breadth and depth of technical capabilities, and work effectively within a highly collaborative, dynamic and capable team in a high technology lab environment.

Your experience includes:
Technical Problem Solving:
  • Identify technical problems based on design objectives and specs and produce well defined problem statements;
  • Find existing in literature methods and theories capable to address the problems and close the design gaps. Possess a broad view of relevant technical fields.
  • Extend existing theoretical methods or develop new methods to fit practical problem statements.
  • Solution implementation and validation. Deployment of the solutions in the large scale factory production.
  • Control Theory and Signal Processing
    • Classical linear control (State space and frequency domain analysis)
    • Discrete time systems (multirate systems a plus)
    • Signal processing, filter design, calibrations and measurement noise reduction
  • Modeling:
    • Matlab and other tools
  • Electronics:
    • Basic knowledge of electrical devices and circuits; Digital logic.
    • ARM and/or RISC-V Processors

Skills and tools:
  1. Programming for embedded systems and real time computing
  2. Matlab / Simulink, C, Python
  3. Data collection (Scopes, DAC NI Equipment)
  • While most of the listed above items are critical for success in this job position, there is no expectation from a candidate to possess all of the above knowledge and skills from the start. Eager to learn candidates will find strong support from their peers and the company to develop their knowledge and skills to close any present gaps.
  • University Degree: Masters degree Electrical or ECE.
