IT Systems Engineer

Position Summary

As a member of our Engineering & Operations team, you will be responsible for the conceptualization and design of the Enterprise Solutions segment of the overall Information and Communications Technology (ICT) architecture. In this role, you will work to build and refine capabilities for IT enterprise services to include network management systems, data center/hosting, end-user services, service desk, and other managed services for current programs, provide support in pursuit of IT modernization new business as well as identify key gaps to address through partnership or new capability development. You should be able to excel in an up-tempo environment and closely work with a matrixed team, across departments and functions.


Primary Job Responsibilities

  1. Provide Windows Server/Desktop and Linux System Administration support for the GCN and SES SD's private MPLS network. Environment consists of VMWare and Windows.
  2. Use expert-level administration and optimization of servers to ensure high degree of availability and appropriate resource management.
  3. Create, update, and maintain documentation of the environment and operational procedures.
  4. Install and configure operating systems, software, and hardware components as needed to maintain the infrastructure as well as document its design, maintenance, and support procedures.
  5. Develop and maintain cloud-based solutions following best practices.
  6. Identify, analyze, and resolve infrastructure vulnerabilities and application deployment issues.
  7. Perform troubleshooting analysis to evaluate applications, network, server, or workstation issues and provide a suitable solution.
  8. Responsible for proactively managing the infrastructure by analyzing and correcting issues as identified, and regularly reporting metrics and issues to management as needed.
  9. Place and escalate vendor service calls when necessary to resolve hardware or software issues.
  10. Create technical requirements and specifications for procurement.
  11. Assist in the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, maintain current knowledge of plan executables, and respond to crises per business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  12. Coordinate with end users and technical staff to implement and maintain systems that utilize industry best practices to meet business objectives, while maintaining the security and integrity of the data, system, and network.
  13. Assist management in defining appropriate standards, policies, and procedures to facilitate the management, accountability, functionality, and security of the systems.
  14. Be the applications administrator for Splunk, Solarwinds NCM, Trellix ePO, Tenable Nessus.
  15. Design enterprise solutions based on the overall ICT concept tailored to meet individual contract requirements for new business pursuits.
  16. Institute best practices and technological approaches for ITSM and IT modernization capabilities including incident, problem, change and service management, trouble ticketing systems (e.g. ServiceNow), network services, end-user services, compute/hosting services, and other modern technologies.
  17. Understanding of solution costs, staff build out plans, and basis-of-estimates (BoE).
  18. Collaborate directly with Enterprise Line of Business (LoB), Program Management Operations (PMO) and Engineering & Operations teams to identify technology and solutions for increased contracts growth and improved customer satisfaction.
  19. Support existing programs in areas of technology insertion and technology refresh.
  20. Be a technology resource for current and future enterprise solutions.
  21. Capabilities on development of technology and proposal documents (responses to RFI/RFP/RFQ), and whitepapers.
  22. Understanding of:
    1. Cloud services (Azure/AWS/VMWare).
    2. Monitor & Control Platforms/Tools (ScienceLogic SL1, Solarwinds NCM, Splunk etc.).
    3. Cyber Security Tools (Tenable Nessus, CrowdStrike, DUO, etc.).
    4. Network Deployment Products (Juniper and/or Palo Alto Networks Firewalls).
    5. Software/System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and methodologies.
  23. Experience capturing technical requirements, solutions, and implementations.
  24. Experience performing requirements traceability (including scalability, performance, maintainability, resiliency, and recovery).
  25. Understanding of security/cyber requirements as related to NIST/RMF/FIPS standards.
  26. Partner with Capture and Business Development to participate in development of new business strategies, assessing current and future skills, and technology needs. Generate impactful technical sections and participate in all aspects of proposal reviews.
  27. Shape and develop technical solutions/white papers and partner relationships through collaboration and industry days.
  28. Represent SES SD organization at trade shows, industry events, panel discussions, etc.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor of Science degree in a technical discipline such as computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, and physics, or relevant field.
  2. 5+ years of experience supporting US Federal/DoD in the design and implementation of Enterprise, ITSM, cyber, and cloud solutions.
  3. Understanding of competitor technology offerings and proven successful partnerships with subcontractors.
  4. Experience working with capture management, proposals, business, and project management teams.
  5. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Experience managing ScienceLogic SL1.
  2. Basic networking knowledge (Juniper or Cisco).
  3. Basic experience with Palo Alto Firewalls.
  4. Relationships within Industry Vendors with ITSM tools and products.
  5. Active Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
