Director, Application Platform Engineering

DescriptionThis position will follow our hybrid work model, we expect the selected candidate to be in office 2-3 days a week at one of the following office locations: St. Petersburg, FL;Job SummaryHands-on, Senior Engineering leader/Architect who will lead the Application Platform Engineering team at Raymond James. This person will lead a team of engineers in building out and evolving useful abstractions that will help accelerate developers by reducing the need to build boilerplate code and implementing commonly needed patterns and strategies. The Platform team which sits within the Enterprise Architecture org will drive efficiencies and standardization by going well beyond simply issuing guidelines and standards or simple abstractions. This team will also play a critical role to help accelerate top Enterprise initiatives and help reduce the overall Risk profile for the Enterprise.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead a team of Engineers in building out the Application development Platform which is composed of Java Engineers and partner with Framework teams that support C# and Python developersCollaborate with Development Teams and Identify the patterns and strategies that the Platform team should take on and prioritize them in alignment with business needs.Define strategic direction and develops tactical plans. Work with application and infrastructure teams to provision platform components.Occasionally you may be asked to augment critical projects through direct involvement and hands-on contributions such as prototyping and developing critical modules.As needed work through all aspects of solutioning from requirements, design, and build through deployment and evolution.Translate business requirements into working foundational components for platform thus ensuring functional and non-functional aspects are met.Effectively identify opportunities for change, implements change and introduces new concepts, procedures, policies and tools while providing a clear explanation of benefits and purpose.Work with business stakeholders, cross functional teams and leading by example to other application development groups.QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesRequired ExperienceJava stack - Spring, Spring BootFull-stack solution design and implementationDesigning and implementing high performance enterprise scale distributed systems.Distributed Caching patternsStrong grasp of Integration patterns (Endpoint, Messaging, Streaming, Callbacks, etc.) and the tradeoffs associated with each approachPlatform Engineering experienceExperience with designing and building Frameworks and ‘Golden paths’ that enable rapid developmentAPI Platform Engineering fundamentals including but not limited to OpenAPI spec, API Gateways, OAuth integrationSound understanding of AuthN and AuthZ concepts and implementation concernsProfiling and performance optimization - threading, memory management, JVM optimization etc.Experience building and implementing solutions for Containerized environments (ideally On-Prem & Cloud)Designing and building Low Latency applicationsAPI Gateways Apigee – 3 yrMicroservices architecture including defining application boundaries, Services MeshModern DevOps practices including - CI/CD, Observability, ContainerizationStrong written and verbal communication skillsExperience on any of the public Clouds, ideally AWSIndustry knowledge - Financial Industry (Capital Markets, Wealth Management) background preferredPreferred ExperienceSome Python experienceKnowledge of .NET 4.0Experience with KafkaSkill and Ability in (Required)Overall relevant experience -12yrsExperience managing a team - 3 yrsJava 10 yrFull-stack systems design and development –10 yrMicroservices - 3 yrAPI Gateways – 3 yrMessaging (Pub/Sub and Point-Point) – 5 yrService Buses such as Apache Camel – 3 yrEducational/Previous Experience RequirementsEducation/Previous ExperienceMinimum of a B.S. in Computer Science, MIS or related degree and ten (10) years of related experience or a combination of education, training and experience as approved by Human Resources.Licenses/CertificationsAWS Architect or similarJob: TechnologyPrimary Location: US-FL-St. Petersburg-Saint PetersburgOther Locations: US-FL-Clearwater-Clearwater, US-FL-Tampa-Tampa, US-FL-St. Petersburg-Saint PetersburgOrganization TechnologySchedule Full-timeJob Shift Day JobTravel NoReq ID: 2402490
