Position Purpose:
The Development Engineer is capable of working within a dynamic group, to meet project goals and timelines. This position must be well organized, detail oriented, and have the flexibility to handle multiple project assignments.
Need an outgoing quick learner and problem solver with hands on ability to think outside the box, who is able to work both independently and on multiple project teams. Selected individual must be able to promote a positive work ethic and demonstrate commitment to Harland Medical Systems corporate values.
The Development Engineer is expected to evaluate new customer products for existing Harland coating chemistries, and/or the customer’s chemistry. The evaluation may lead to engineering new fixturing, a new coating process or developing a new technology to accomplish the coating goal. This work is geared towards creating a manufacturable process.
This position may support manufacturing engineering from time to time as manufacturing is faced with unique challenges or new technologies and equipment.
This position will evaluate and develop new technologies to enhance Harland’s ability to coat customer’s devices. New technologies will be well documented and proven viable in a manufacturing environment before being introduced to manufacturing.
This position is responsible to provide the BUM with technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties and process (advantages/limitations). To provide recommendations, this position assists both coating development and process groups in writing technical reports by capturing, analyzing and summarizing experiment results. Technical reports need to include problem statements, methods and materials used, data analysis, conclusions and suggestions for follow-up work. The Development Engineer is expected to proficiently use MS Office tools and Solidworks.
The Development Engineer should be adept at using hand tools and stationary tools for the fabrication of experimental devices and fixtures. 3D printing of prototypes should be used to quickly decide if a design should move forward or be re-evaluated.
This position is expected to maintain a clean and safe lab environment by maintaining a clean work area and properly labeling all material containers.
Education, Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and/or a Technical Degree with minimum of 5 years related experience
- Work with Sales to acquire and document customer requirements on customer focused jobs
- Assess new technologies that can be incorporated into supporting coating efforts in other Business Units
- Capable of creating internal test plans and reports, which support the incorporation of new technologies
- Ability to understand an issue and suggest creative solutions to resolve it
- Experience working in a cross-functional team
- Train Harland employees on new technologies
- Ability to design procedures, work instructions and specifications to be used by other business groups
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to collect, summarize and report technical information
- Strong computer skills with competency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
- Detail-oriented, highly organized team player
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Self-starter and motivated individual who works independently
- Mechanically inclined and experienced working with power tools and industrial equipment
- Previous experience working in a cleanroom environment
- Proficient with Solidworks

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. The employee is frequently required to talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms above shoulder height and below the waist. Using proper lifting techniques, the employee must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
