Harper Engineering Co. is looking for a dynamic, experienced CNC Operator to join our Machine Shop team. This CNC Operator will be instrumental in maintaining high-quality production standards in the Turning Department.

Job Summary
The CNC Operator 3 sets up and operates numerical control turning machines to cut workpieces to precise specifications, playing a key role in ensuring high-quality production within the Turning department. This role requires advanced skills and experience in CNC operation, programming adjustments, and quality control.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set-Up and Operation:
  • Set up and operate CNC turning machines such as DMG Mori universal turn machines and Tsugami screw machines.
  • Test run new programs prior to full production runs and report any issues to programmers for adjustments.
  • Adjust machine settings to optimize performance and ensure the accuracy of machined parts.
  • Quality Control:
  • Observe and listen to machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
  • Inspect and measure machined workpieces using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Use blueprints, sketches, drawings, and work instructions to fabricate products accurately.
  • Maintenance and Documentation:
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal machine performance and longevity.
  • Maintain accurate records of labor hours, machine usage, and completed workpieces.
  • Follow all safety rules, procedures, and protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Support and Collaboration:
  • Assist in the production of parts, routine maintenance, and repair of machines.
  • Participate in building maintenance and upkeep as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve issues promptly.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior operators as needed.
Process Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implement best practices to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall productivity.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the Turning department.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience as a CNC operator in a turning environment.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc, and Celos machine controls.
  • Proficiency in reading G and M codes.
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a noisy and fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle materials as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with specific machines mentioned (DMG Mori) is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement processes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
