Rate $90-105/hr W2

Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled software engineer to work on hardware integration and automation projects. The ideal candidate will have experience working with consumer electronics, firmware, and lab test equipment such as cameras, motion stages, and 6-dof manufacturing robots.

As a software engineer, you will be responsible for integrating all of these components and building scalable and reusable systems that allow for easy software updates and component swaps. In addition, you will be responsible for developing software that automates hardware systems to enable data collection. This will require a strong understanding of hardware components and firmware, as well as programming skills in languages such as C++ and Python.

A successful candidate will also have strong testing and debugging skills to ensure software operates as expected and hardware components are integrated properly. You will need to be able to gather requirements from stakeholders, develop software that meets those requirements, and ensure that the software operates as expected through thorough testing and debugging. Strong communication skills are essential for success in this role, as you will be working closely with cross-functional teams and providing updates on project status.

Requirements:

1. Bachelors degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field
2. Strong programming skills in languages such as C++ and Python
3. Experience working with hardware components and interfacing with firmware
4. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
5. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills and attention to detail
6. Strong testing and debugging skills
7. Requirements gathering skills
8. Excellent communication skills

Responsibilities:

1. Setting up and maintaining data collection SW
2. Building abstractions for hardware, and scaling solutions to many different types of hardware
3. C++ & Python debugging, understanding different kinds of error analysis and communicating with other Research Engineers and Scientists.
4. Writing SW that interfaces with HW.
5. Design and execute experiments to validate product quality and investigate HW/SW issues.
6. Design and commission automation procedures for experiments.
7. Perform device calibration with proprietary equipment.
8. Commission and operate complex measurement and test equipment.
9. Documentation of various processes and techniques with help from the core team.

Qualifications (preferred):

1. Experience with real time data pipelines, such as moving high resolution images from cameras
2. Experience with interfacing with HW, such as a Raspberry Pi
3. Statistical data analysis and visualization
4. Robot control or mechatronics experience, in particular:
5. Controlling linear motion stages
6. Controlling robot arms
7. Knowledge about camera optics and acquisition settings
8. Experience with VR or AR systems
