About this role:Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer that will report into the Research and Systems Engineering organization for Foundational Platform Engineering (FPE). Learn more about the career areas and lines of business at wellsfargojobs.com .As a Principal Engineer, you will play a crucial role in setting technical direction, providing technical leadership, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex projects. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to drive the development of new technologies, mentor engineers, and contribute to our company's technical vision and strategy. You will be part of a team of multi-disciplined engineers working on Virtualization, Kubernetes, GenAI, Developer Experience, and Infrastructure as Code.This role will be expected to be hands-on, and act as a senior individual contributor. The projects will be complex, high priority, and working on the latest tech stacks. We are constantly working with new open source projects, and actively trying to productionize and scale them up for large enterprise implementations.You will need to anticipate potential obstacles and manage escalations. There will be no perfect decision, requiring making informed tradeoffs and balancing business needs with technical constraints to arrive at the best solution. You are expected to possess the ability to break down large and complex projects into manageable tasks, create functional specifications, and ensure their successful and timely completion.The ideal candidate can differentiate between important and urgent matters, identify the best way forward from various scenarios, and gain the trust of stakeholders and end users.In this role, you will:Foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation, driving continuous improvement initiatives and promoting the adoption of emerging technologies.Hands-on lead and manage the technical delivery of enterprise-level infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to architectural design principles, security standards, and project timelines.Provide technical guidance and mentorship to cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, acting as the primary technical point of contact for project-related communications and escalations.Monitor project progress, identify technical risks, and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure successful project delivery.Required Qualifications:7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, educationDesired Qualifications:BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or related field7+ years experience in software development and delivery. In-depth knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technologies, including virtualization, networking, storage, and security.Expertise in designing complex, distributed, and scalable enterprise level applications.Solid programming skills in Python or Go for automation, scripting, and infrastructure management tasks.Experience with Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management tools (Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, Chef, Salt)Hands on experience creating and managing automated OS image builds with tools such as Packr or Image Builder.Strong expertise in VMWare HCX and ESXi for efficient workload migration across different environmentsStrong knowledge of public cloud (Azure/GCP) with hands-on experience in deploying and managing applications in the cloud.Strong expertise in Docker, Kubernetes and PCF. Managing high availability and efficient deployment of cloud-native applications.Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, etc.Experience with GitOps principles and tools, such as Git, Flux, or ArgoCD, for managing infrastructure and application deployments.Proficiency in API gateways, such as Kong or Apigee, for managing and securing APIs.Knowledge of Service Mesh technologies, such as Istio, Linkerd, or Consul, for microservices communication and observability.Strong understanding of RESTful APIs with hands-on experience in designing or extending such APIsTotal Base Pay RangeDenver Pay Range 144,000 - 300,000 USD AnnualNew York Pay Range 144,400.00 - 300,000.00 USD AnnualPay RangeReflected is the base pay range offered for this position.
