Assistant Engineering Manager

Amalgamated Sugar Company- Paul, Idaho


Amalgamated Sugar Company is seeking an Assistant Engineering Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department. This position will report to the Engineering Manager in Paul, Idaho. The Assistant Engineering Manager will oversee Capital and M&R projects as assigned, including scopes of work, cost estimating, design, material specification and selection, procurement, budget & project/construction management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and direction for engineering activities to ensure professional engineering standards and applicable Code requirements in all phases of construction, maintenance, and operations.
  • Work extensively with the Engineering Manager, Operating and Maintenance Departments in planning, developing, and engineering new improvement projects.
  • Conduct, direct, and collect data from engineering studies regarding cost of operations and maintenance of equipment, systems, or processes, identifying areas of improvement.
  • Assist with the design, cost estimating, bidding, and construction document preparation, managing the construction of various factory projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
  • Assist with Engineering Department Management including employee supervision, budget development, control of expenditures, and scheduling of assigned tasks.
  • Provide engineering support to other departments of the company as required.
  • Investigate new equipment offered by various suppliers, presenting findings to the members of the Operations, Maintenance and Engineering Departments.
  • Give approval on design and engineering in the selection of equipment in collaboration with the Engineering Manager, Plant Manager, Operations Manager, and Maintenance Manager.
  • Manage assigned subordinate engineering staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to subordinate engineering staff regarding professional development and career mapping.
  • Keep abreast of current developments in fields pertinent to responsibilities and ensures that the company achieves full utilization of advances in such technologies.
  • Communicate orally and in writing. Read and understand oral and written policies, safety and environmental requirements, and other company policies.
  • Train, assign, prioritize, supervise, motivate, and evaluate the work of assigned employees.
  • Requires travel to conferences, trainings and to meetings.
  • Provide professional engineering counsel to the Engineering Manager, Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager about engineering, maintenance, and operating activities.
  • Participate in or maintain relationships with professional and trade associations.
  • Establish and maintain lines of communication, cooperation, and coordination between Engineering and other departments of the company that ensure that the plans, programs, and their progress contribute to the Company's overall goals.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required in an Engineering discipline likely Mechanical, Chemical, Civil or Electrical.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in factory operations and related engineering fields.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
  • A PE license is preferred. Candidates without a PE will be strongly encouraged to complete the requirements through the course of their role.
  • Considerable knowledge of engineering systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Considerable knowledge of standard engineering and systems design practices.
  • Skilled in the use of computer and related engineering technology.
