The Security Engineer SME shall support the Government’s security efforts in migrating the current National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system to the cloud for the next generation system (N3G).


Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements security measures to protect computer systems, networks, and data from loss and service interruptions.
  • Analyzes and documents security risks, breaches, and other cybersecurity incidents and the damage they cause.
  • Develops and implements a network disaster recovery plan and oversees the monitoring of the computer networks for security issues.
  • Collaborates with the security team to perform tests and find network weaknesses.
  • Researches and keeps current on the latest IT intelligence technologies, trends, and security standards.
  • Performs work with a high degree of latitude. Handles the most complex issues. Possesses expert knowledge of subject matter.
  • May act as a lead.
  • Engineers, implements, and monitors security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks, and information.
  • Identifies and defines system security requirements.
  • Designs computer security architecture and develops detailed cybersecurity designs. Prepares and documents standard operating procedures and protocols.
  • Configures and troubleshoots security infrastructure devices.
  • Develops technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
  • Ensures that the Government has awareness of and details associated with security incidents.
  • Writes comprehensive reports, including assessment-based findings, outcomes, and propositions for further system security enhancement.
  • Supports, as necessary, the pursuit and approvals of Authority-To-Test (ATT) and/or Authority-To-Operate (ATO).

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in system architecture, systems engineering, or security architecture.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of providing technical guidance on security architecture development, secure software development methodologies, techniques, and best practices; reviewing and evaluating new or enhanced development methods for security implications and providing recommendations for their use, with particular emphasis on public cloud providers.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience reviewing and evaluating system designs and architectures for potential security weaknesses and providing recommendations on mitigations.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in:
    • Building and maintaining security systems
    • Obtaining detailed technical knowledge of database and operating system security
    • Security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, antivirus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc.
    • Network security and networking technologies and with system, security, and network monitoring tools
  • Understanding the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols.
  • Being familiar with web-related technologies (Web applications, Web Services, Service Oriented Architectures) and network/web-related protocols.
  • Top Secret Security Clearance with the ability to attain SCI.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience with the Federal Government, particularly with the FBI.
  • Current security certification such as the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or the Certified Information Systems Security Management Professional (ISSMP).

Pay Range

$185,000 - $200,000
