Location: Full time onsite at USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC. May be limited "local remote" flexibility with customer approval.
Travel: Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.

Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required: This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred);OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire.
Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated Mid-Level Marine Electrical Engineer to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)'s Ship Design Team in Washington, DC . An ideal candidate will have prior experience with one of the following specialized Marine Electrical fields: electric propulsion, machinery control, power generation or distribution systems, as well as familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Review electrical systems design drawings, interpret ship specifications, evaluate power and lighting systems, and electric or diesel-electric propulsion.
- Write electrical system specifications for concept, preliminary and contract-level designs and ship modifications.
- Review marine electrical systems and define engineering requirements.
- Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
- Perform design and calculations including but not limited to EPLA (Electric Power Load Analysis), Arc-Flash Analysis, Electrical System Survivability Analysis, and Ground Fault Analysis.
- Conduct design, analysis, studies, and recapitalization of electrical circuits, power monitoring and control systems, electric propulsion, and power generation.
- Evaluate effect of new or modified electrical subsystems on overall system performance.
- Review and adjudicate system design specifications, test requirements, Departures from Specification (DFS's), Request for Waiver (RFW), and Engineering Changes (EC's).

Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Marine or Electrical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in Marine Electrical fields.
- Overall experience must include at least three (3)years of documented experience working in one of the following specialized fields: electric propulsion, machinery control, power generation or distribution systems.
- Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs preferred.
- Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs preferred.
- Knowledge of U.S. Navy Power Distribution Architectures.
- Familiarity with USN, USCG, ABS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
- Proficient with common productivity software.
- Strong communications skills.
