Position Summary

Come join the fast-growing Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group at HDR. BES provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site civil, structural, and specialty design services for a wide variety of building projects that include public, municipal, private, and Federal project types both locally as well as across the region and globally. This multidisciplinary team consists of civil engineers who focus on site layout and grading; structural engineers with emphasis on building support systems (concrete, steel, mass timber, etc.); mechanical engineers concentrating on both wet (piping/plumbing design) and dry (HVAC) building systems and electrical engineers and instrumentation and controls engineers directing design on high, medium and low voltage systems (power distribution, lighting, communication and systems). You have an opportunity to work on a wide variety of building types ranging from technology, aerospace, commercial, industrial and institutional facilities to data centers and highly specialized facilities in the water, wastewater and power delivery sectors.

HDR Engineering is looking for a Civil Engineer to join our growing Building Engineering Services group. This individual has broad technical knowledge and experience with the design and construction of a variety of civil design projects. Leveraging that knowledge and experience, they work in close coordination as part of a design team with a Department Manager and Project Manager to lead and execute the Site Civil engineering and design components of projects. They are an experienced, competent engineer who understands the technical requirements of site design of civil projects and can lead, guide, and advise clients, projects, and teams.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Civil Site Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Lead Site Civil Design as part of a multi-disciplined design team performing site designs for facility improvement/development projects.
  • Oversee/prepare construction documents (plans and specifications) for site improvements including erosion control, grading, site layout and surfacing, drainage, utilities, and permitting documents.
  • Perform project tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members.
  • Support the technical aspect of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
  • Coordinate and/or perform quality checks and reviews for project deliverables per the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures to deliver a world-class quality product to the client.
  • Perform quality checks and/or reviews of projects from other teams on an as-needed basis.
  • Work independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise EITs, and/or CADD/Designers.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, collaborating with teams in different locations.
  • Work with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of concepts related to their discipline.
  • May also assist with other Civil Design projects associated with Water/Wastewater Systems, Transportation, and Power delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficient and demonstrated applied experience with CAD civil engineering software such as Bentley Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D; specialty civil platforms (e.g., Openflows) as required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
