Role Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Machine Learning Engineer (MLE) Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering projects and advancing our mission to build, deploy, and sustain machine learning models that optimize process performance indicators and trends.

You will plan, manage, and control the activities of a team that provides technology-based data reporting tools and management for business segments or the company at large. You’ll bring expertise or identify subject matter experts in support of multi-functional efforts to identify, interpret and produce recommendations based on company reporting and data needs. You will generate recommendations for business groups by providing technical reports that identify and address business issues and opportunities. You will ensure that guardrails, policies, and procedures align with corporate strategic vision. You will also select, develop, and evaluate personnel ensuring efficient operation of the function in an agile process.

Essential Functions:

  1. Manage the execution of technical roadmaps and data pipelines for digital products featuring AI/ML algorithms, including low coding, data, and models at scale.
  2. Manage a team of MLEs and provide guidance and mentorship to ensure successful project delivery.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for implementing machine learning solutions to improve business processes.
  4. Develop and implement ML-based solutions and components for detecting anomalous conditions and singularities in monitored processes and operations.
  5. Stay up to date with the latest advancements in machine learning and data science to ensure our solutions are cutting-edge and effective.
  6. Understand, explore, and deliver relevant data analyses to inform data inclusion, exclusion, and sub-setting criteria as well as feature and model selection for DH&I solutions.
  7. Collaborate with data scientists to analyze and select appropriate data models and algorithms that focus on improving process outcomes across multiple operations/business areas leveraging diverse data.
  8. Coordinate with data engineering teams to extract and create data features from large data sets for input into models.
  9. Coordinate work with data scientists to define model validation strategies, train, and tune models, and analyze and resolve errors in models.
  10. Lead model deployment to production.
  11. Define and develop model monitoring and maintenance processes including metrics to assess accuracy, drift, etc.
  12. Lead and develop standards, processes, and best practices for the team across the data science-based solution implementation lifecycle.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience.
  2. Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  3. Ability to travel up to 20% as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Typically requires 5+ years of relevant leadership experience.
  2. Proven experience managing large team of ML engineers and Data Scientists.
  3. Proven prior experience as a Machine Learning Engineer, Data Engineer, Software Engineer, or similar role.
  4. Understanding of data structures, data modeling, and software architecture.
  5. Proven ability to write code in Python (opensource contributions or Kaggle kernels are a plus).
  6. Familiarity with Linux operating system.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work in teams in an agile setting.
  8. Proven experience in deploying a machine learning model to production on Azure, Google, Amazon Web Services (AWS) or similar cloud technology service suite.
  9. Hands-on experience using Databricks or Apache Spark (i.e., PySpark, SparkR, or Scala) and understanding best practices.
  10. Hands-on experience with multiple programming languages – Python, SQL, Scala, R, Golang, C#, JavaScript, C/C++ or similar.
  11. Proficiency in using and extending ML frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
  12. Experience with Vertex AI or AWS SageMaker stack.
  13. MS or PhD in Computer Science, Business Analytics, Automation, Informatics, Sustainability, Math, Statistics, or similar field.
  14. Publications or conference presentations on topics in the machine learning arena.
  15. Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to self-direct.
