Job Description SummaryThe Mechanical Welding Engineer is responsible for a variety of activities to support the GEH nuclear business and its partners. In this role, you will support the development of welding design specifications, welding process specifications, as well as provide design and procurement support for welded products. This position requires interfacing with Engineering Leadership, Product Management, Quality, Sourcing and Manufacturing teams within our Nuclear Services and New Plant Design businesses.Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesEmbrace GEH’s nuclear safety culture, where work is performed with an overriding priority on integrity, safety, security, and qualityWork effectively in a matrixed engineering team to ensure high quality deliverables in accordance with customer requirements, procedures, and regulatory guidelinesLeverage knowledge of physical and welding metallurgy of austenitic stainless steels and perform metallurgical analysis of weldmentsReview designs with welds for application of welding symbols, conformance to codes and make recommendations for joint designs while collaborating in a productive and respectful mannerSupport the development of welding process specifications, welding procedures, inspection requirements, and weld qualification reportsDemonstrate knowledge of welding defects and their causesHelp support welding and process issues, provide and support implementation of solutionsSupport technical support for Sourcing Team of fabricator welding procedures and weld qualification reviewsAssist Mechanical Design Engineers in welding joint design concepts and design for manufacturabilityDemonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, including an ability to write organized engineering documentsStrong interpersonal and proven leadership skillsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Welding Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited university or college.Eligibility RequirementThis role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.The required work location for this role is at the GE Hitachi Nuclear Headquarters Wilmington, NC (relocation assistance provided)Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international plant sites.GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening.Desired CharacteristicsExperience analyzing, and solving moderately complex design problemsStrong oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write organized engineering documentsKnowledge of Geometric Design & Tolerancing practicesFamiliar with the physical and welding metallurgy of nickel alloys, zirconium and aluminum alloys.Familiar with SAW, FCAW, GMAW and SMAW processes.Knowledge of the ASME/AWS codesExperience in the BWR or PWR industryThis role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
