Hotstart designs, manufactures, and delivers thermal management solutions to customers in a variety of industrial equipment markets. We have an open position for an experienced mechanical engineer to join our New Product Development team in Spokane, Washington. We are looking for a talented and motivated candidate to help expand our portfolio of thermal management products, technical capabilities, and market applications.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Project leadership for new product development and improvement efforts
  • Provide expertise for a variety of system and component level design challenges
  • Work with internal experts and customers on product requirement and performance goals
  • Research new technologies for potential applicability and increased in-house expertise
  • Learn and evaluate existing company products for improvement opportunities
  • Support manufacturing and quality assurance teams to optimize delivered product
  • Support customers on product application, testing, performance optimization, and troubleshooting activities
  • Occasional travel to visit customer facilities, vendors, and field-testing sites (domestic and international)

Qualifications

  • Strong work ethic and ability to navigate challenges on the path to implementing final solutions
  • Previous experience leading projects to design and implement custom equipment
  • Component level design expertise for machined, sheet metal, cast, welded, and molded parts
  • Ability to lead hands-on testing efforts, troubleshooting, and prototype builds
  • Strong understanding and ability to apply heat transfer and thermodynamics principles
  • Previous experience with industrial heating equipment, vapor compression-based products, and refrigerants
  • Previous experience with brazing and welding
  • Familiarity with high volume manufacturing processes and automation techniques
  • Advanced computer skills and previous experience with SolidWorks design software
  • Ability to teach and mentor based on previous experience and current research to elevate staff competency

Education

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 7 or more years of experience with the design of custom machinery or OEM equipment
