Mott MacDonald is currently seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Civil Engineer interested in large-scale public infrastructure projects in a dynamic work environment based in Los Angeles, California. This position would be attractive for mid-level engineers who can lead designs with minimal oversight and train younger staff and are looking for a diverse career in the Transportation sector having a particular interest in Railroad and Transit projects.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Lead the design (planning through final detailed design) of civil engineering projects, primarily in transportation/rail transit;
  • Prepare and lead technical reports, specifications, design and contract documents, quantity take-offs, estimates, and calculations;
  • Mentor/train and review work of other design staff;
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications;
  • Compile and compute a variety of engineering data;
  • Provide support to project management and project control tasks;
  • Conduct site visits for the purposes of observing and documenting field conditions and observations;
  • Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.;
  • Attend and lead meetings with Clients and Contractors;
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, as needed.

We are looking for graduates with the following characteristics:

  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering
  • EIT required; CA PE preferred
  • 10+ years' experience in civil engineering, preferably roadway, highway, and/or rail track design
  • Involvement with professional organization(s), preferred
  • Experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Bluebeam. Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members
  • Methodical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently
  • Adaptable and flexible to working on multiple assignments and with different team members

Salary Range: $50.00 - $80.00 per hour
