Inside the Role
The Manufacturing Engineering Department at Detroit Diesel is responsible for planning the implementation of new products, equipment, and processes for our Powersystem lines - including classic powertrain and ePowertrain components. In this role, you will work with local & international partners to successfully design & implement machine controls and test equipment for the latest technology production lines producing world changing products as well as enhancements to existing lines. During these activities, you will be working with a team of other Manufacturing Engineers but will also have opportunities to interact with other groups focused on maintenance, operations, quality, and finance. This role will primarily be focused on the Axle and eAxle product lines, with specialization in testing systems. It is an excellent opportunity to learn more about powertrain systems and help Daimler Trucks achieve its goal of Leading Sustainable Transportation.

Position offers a starting salary range of $90,000- $115,000
Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Support the controls portion of an internal or external projects by participating on a team for planning and implementing complex systems and projects which includes: researching vendors, creating technical specifications, requesting quotations, selecting vendors, creating timelines, issuing purchase requisitions (coordinate with Purchasing), participating in design reviews, scheduling installations and tryouts, qualifying and approving equipment/tooling for projects, and etc.
  • Implement and support hardware and software for PLC, CNC & HMI controls, device local networks, servo and VFD hardware and software.
  • Support manufacturing monitoring systems with emphasis on interfacing to higher-level systems.
  • Apply controls technology to new and existing processes to provide optimal manufacturing solutions. Includes specifying, managing, and assisting with controls design for new and current equipment in support of new products or changes to existing processes.
  • Monitor equipment build and installation to verify the controls portions are being correctly implemented, includes supporting through production line startup, tracking and verification of open controls issues.
  • Research and develop standards and new controls technologies for use in Axle production systems.
  • Participate as an integral team member in the specifying, purchasing, startup, and monitoring of test equipment. Includes diagnosis and resolution of issues of test systems, including both electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Participate in team and cross-functional groups, including international collaboration. Ability to travel internationally (Europe & Mexico) for project work.
  • Experience working in production environment with hourly and skilled trades union workers.
  • Ensure work meets Daimler Truck's standards and that engineering practices comply with government regulations and safety standards, including programming and modification of test procedures.
Knowledge You Should Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering with 2-4 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 2 years experience in controls engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in troubleshooting and programming Siemens PLCs, Step7 and TIA portal programming environments, and working with Siemens HMI programming software.
  • Experience in manufacturing controls equipment hardware and software design practices and standards.
  • Experience in using PC hardware and Microsoft Windows in a networked plant environment.
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
  • Four (4) or more years of experience in controls engineering
  • Experience programming and working with Kuka and/or Fanuc robots
  • Experience with Siemens Sinumerik CNC Controllers
  • Project management or supervisory experience.
  • Global project experience.
  • Experience with testing systems and hardware, preferably powertrain testing systems or dynamometers.
  • Experience with new product launches or machine retrofits.
  • Experience with data acquisition collection and processing, including noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) data.
