POSITION SUMMARY The Component Engineer will lead technical research and qualification of alternative components and suppliers. This role is crucial in assessing the impact of component obsolescence and working with suppliers to develop effective retrofit solutions. The engineer will focus on consolidating parts and reducing inventory while supporting component substitution for all business lines and selecting and approving new components for retrofit programs. Additionally, the engineer will oversee the Parts Harvesting and Recertification program for legacy boards and critical components, collaborating closely with Technical Support and Engineering teams to achieve project goals. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly), Power Semiconductor devices and SMD (Surface-Mount Device) processes. RESPONSIBILITIES * Serve as the primary liaison for the Parts Harvesting and Recertification program, focusing on legacy equipment, and coordinate efforts between engineering, supply chain, and suppliers. * Develop and refine processes for component recovery and recertification, with a strong understanding of PCBA and SMD processes. * Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate and approve alternative components for obsolete parts, ensuring compatibility and performance. * Work with global counterparts and the Supply Chain department to identify and qualify alternate components and enhance supplier relationships. * Maintain a specification system for off-the-shelf parts to ensure consistency and ease of access. * Partner with engineering to select and approve alternative suppliers for critical components as needed, leveraging expertise in PCBA and SMD processes. * Collaborate with Supplier Quality and Supply Chain teams to qualify new suppliers, ensuring they meet the company's technical and quality standards. * Assist in consolidating redundant parts and optimizing inventory management using tools such as the ABC matrix. * Participate in New Product Development (NPD) design reviews to provide input on component selection and standardization. * Process component substitution requests and manage obsolescence replacements, ensuring technical and functional requirements are met. * Develop and implement strategies with suppliers for retrofitting components to mitigate Last-Time-Buy scenarios. * Establish and manage recertification processes for components retrieved from the field to ensure their suitability for reuse. * Engage in the qualification of alternative components and oversee Design Verification Testing (DVT) to validate component reliability and performance. * Evaluate the impact of component substitutions on field operations and adjust strategies as necessary. * Stay updated on key suppliers' product development roadmaps to anticipate potential component changes or obsolescence. * Support PD Cloud or Team Center implementations for managing parts and tooling specific to Vertiv Services. * Keep abreast of new product developments, revisions, and upgrades that could affect product operation and component compatibility. * Perform additional duties or projects as assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering required, Master's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering preferred. * At least one year of experience in technical customer-facing roles, with field service experience being a plus. * Extensive knowledge of PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) and SMD (Surface-Mount Device) processes. * Familiarity with critical data center electrical and mechanical equipment, such as Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and Thermal/HVAC products, is a plus. * EApply here:
