Summary

The Director-Capital Implementation is responsible for performing the duties of the Corporate Project Engineer role as a working project engineer and providing guidance and oversight of the Corporate Projects Group. The Director of Capital Implementation will report directly to the Sr. Director of Implementation-Operations Capital. In this role, the incumbent will manage major operational integrity and infrastructure projects and provide input for the strategic direction of the 3 and 5 year corporate and plant capital plans.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Effectively manage the Capital Implementation Group (3+ direct reports).
  2. Provide strategic contribution into 3 and 5 year corporate and plant capital plans to address Operations Capital needs for the organization.
  3. Oversee the development and execution of 3 year electrical and civil/structural infrastructure plans to ensure prioritization based on safety, plant criticality, and obsolescence.
  4. Analyze all facets of proposed projects and provide detailed cost, schedule, and justification estimates to support capital expenditures.
  5. Interface with maintenance and production to ascertain and identify operational maintenance problems and opportunities.
  6. Conduct engineering and project analysis and follow through with major and minor project recommendations, justification, and implementation.
  7. Manage or support all aspects of infrastructure projects including design, construction, vendor management, cost tracking, operational interfaces, and operations preparation.
  8. Coordinate between contractors, vendors, and GAF to manage, engineer, and implement projects efficiently without causing production delays.
  9. Provide leadership and support for the Capital Implementation team while promoting a collaborative, customer service philosophy.
  10. Lead/participate in cross-functional corporate and plant teams investigating opportunities to improve and expand GAF’s processes and products.
  11. Promote a culture of safety excellence ensuring team members, contractors, and vendors are safety-focused.

Technical Skills

  1. Advanced knowledge of manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures.
  2. Advanced ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings.
  3. Advanced proficiency using root cause analysis and structured methods to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  4. Advanced ability to translate technical data into a format suitable for operations and maintenance personnel.
  5. Advanced knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
  6. Demonstrated leadership in capital project planning, development, and execution.
  7. Advanced ability to establish and maintain strategic working relationships across all GAF functions.
  8. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and initiatives.
  9. Demonstrated experience in hiring/training/coaching employees and performance management.
  10. Advanced knowledge of manufacturing analysis tools.
  11. Advanced knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations.
  12. Advanced communication skills; written, verbal, and listening skills.
  13. Advanced analytical skills and attention to detail.
  14. Ability to execute projects within scope, schedule, and budget.
  15. Demonstrated hands-on experience including direct supervision of engineers and contractor personnel.
  16. Strong ability to influence and drive cross-functional decisions and initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

  1. BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical with Mechanical preferred).
  2. 5+ years of management-level supervision including management of multiple salaried engineers.
  3. Proven background in managing projects with budgets of $100K - $20MM.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplines as project manager and supervise others.
  5. Willingness and ability to travel 50-60%.
  6. Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future requirement for sponsorship of an employment-based visa status.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. 5 years in a roofing/building products manufacturing organization.
  2. Thorough knowledge and experience with computers and G Suite/MS Office.
  3. Drafting experience with CAD, preferably Autodesk products.
