The chief electrical engineer will lead and manage the electrical and software engineering team. This person will be responsible for driving continuous improvement efforts across different engineering disciplines and making critical decisions that have a large impact on projects and engineering initiatives. The chief electrical engineer will develop and foster engineers to think innovatively, hold accountability, and process improvement daily while also providing advanced, technical leadership within the electrical engineering department. The chief electrical engineer will conduct collaborative research of new technology and processes associated with vehicle electronics and control systems and apply strategically to vehicles.

This role is at Dodge Center, MN (the greater Rochester, MN area) or hybrid from Minneapolis/St Paul (minimum three days/week in office). Relocation is available!

YOUR IMPACT:

  • Lead a team of 7 to 10 Engineers, Designers, and Technicians that are responsible for design, performance, and integrity of the electrical systems and software integration.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate business and product strategy to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide coaching and development for team members including exposure to workforce planning, succession planning, resource allocation, horizon planning, conflict resolution, people first leadership.
  • Prepare and control department budget(s), forecast operating costs of department, and direct preparation of budget requests. Recommending capital improvements and championing assigned initiatives.
  • Collaborate with functional leaders to achieve strategic initiatives.
  • Ability to present and defend technical engineering decisions to engineering leadership, Oshkosh leadership, and external customers.
  • Develop engineering goals and strategic plans for the product portfolio both current and future.
  • Direct and communicate high level electrical/software engineering analysis of customer requirements, including design of new and modified systems, ensuring current products remain competitive as well as supporting new products.
  • Conduct the necessary research to be an advocate for new technologies/products that will enable the business.
  • Identify and provide potential innovative solutions to complex issues.
  • Act as a key influencer in technical decisions regarding new technology.
  • Collaborate in establishment of the technical baseline and technical engineering vision.
  • Help lead the transformation of the organization into modern approaches to development, integration, and test.
  • Interface with customers/suppliers to resolve complex technical issues to provide the business with innovative, industry leading solutions.
  • Protect the competitive advantage of intellectual property of the organization and products by effectively following the patent process and necessary confidentiality protocols.
  • Provide technical mentorship to all levels of the engineering organization.
  • Supply technical inspiration and leadership consultation to other engineers.
  • Act as a technical advisor to engineering leaders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with ten (10) or more years of related experience.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Accredited Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Background in leading multiple electrical areas such as wiring, software, and electronics.
  • Ability to lead the requirement derivation process and translating into released designs.
  • Background in control system development.
  • Solid background in DVP&R and dFMEA.
  • At least three years employee management experience providing direct reporting employee performance review and development.
  • Previous commercial vehicle experience at a chassis OEM, tier 1 supplier, or body equipment manufacturer.
  • Proven relationship-based hands-on leader of engineers.
  • Previous experience with implementing corporate processes, templates, and/or IT tools.
  • Worked or completed projects within a Manufacturing environment.
  • Previously experience with non-US based engineering services.

  • Decision-Making: Significant responsibility for decisions and final results, affecting more than one function or a function with multiple complexities. Effective and at times substantial analysis is required and many factors must be weighted before a decision can be reached.
  • Complexity, Judgment and Problem Solving: Work requires the ability to plan and perform work in light of new or constantly changing problems, work from broad instruction, and deal with complex factors not easily evaluated. Decisions require considerable judgment, initiative and ingenuity in areas there is little precedent.
  • Supervisory/Managerial: Recommends personnel actions (hiring, termination, pay changes). Involves scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of employees who perform similar work assignments. Active succession planning is required.

  • Work Schedule: Daily office hours at a minimum. This position will require extended work hours at times in order to complete some assignments or urgent matters. Infrequent weekend time for special projects and trades shows should be expected.
  • Demands/Deadlines: High volume and variable work demands and deadlines impose strain on routine basis or considerable stress intermittently; OR regular direct contacts with distressed individuals within the immediate work environment; and/or exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
  • Domestic Travel: Not to exceed 20%.

Pay Range: $102,800.00 - $176,800.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
