Phenome Health is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research organization established in 2021 to contribute solutions to major challenges causing a health crisis. Our team, led by internationally recognized visionary scientist Lee Hood, is promoting a radical paradigm change—namely shifting from a reactive system that focuses on treating disease to a proactive system focused on optimizing health. Phenome Health is partnering with research participants to build a disease-agnostic discovery framework. We are leveraging advancements in biotechnologies, digital health, and AI to execute projects that will drive personalized and equitable medicine of the future.

Our headquarters are based in Seattle, Washington with team members distributed across the United States.

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join the Phenome Health team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in the full stack and be able to lead and contribute to development in all areas. You will play a critical role in the development and maintenance of software tools and pipelines used for analyzing complex biological data. Working closely with engineers, data scientists, and other members of the research team, the Software Engineer will contribute to the development of innovative solutions for organizing, analyzing, and understanding multimodal biological data.

What you'll do

  • Design, develop, and maintain software applications and tools for data analysis, modeling, and visualization.
  • Collaborate with other team members to implement computational models and algorithms.
  • Optimize software performance and efficiency for large-scale data processing.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity through robust data management practices.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for software applications and tools.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in software engineering and data science.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or Java.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn).
  • Familiarity with machine learning and AI techniques.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices (e.g., version control, testing, code review).
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a biotech or healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of biological data and systems.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Contributions to open-source software projects.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $110,000 to $185,000 depending on skills and experience.

110,000 - 185,000 USD per year (PH Seattle)

110,000 - 185,000 USD per year (Remote - United States)
