DescriptionAmazon Robotics is building a new, foundational automation system which will transform warehouse operations by enabling the integration of multiple, complex, automation solutions. The team is seeking a talented and motivated System Development Engineer to design and develop controls for robotics systems and industrial automation equipment.The Sr. System Development Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, integrating, troubleshooting, and optimizing various automation solutions, while acting as a engineering leader for our internal product development teams, internal/external engineering partner teams, and on behalf of our global Amazon customers.Key job responsibilitiesDesign, simplify and continuously improve system controls architecture including machine control code, networking, electrical design and safety designDevelop controls code utilizing structured text and ladder-logic on Codesys and RSLogix 5000 platformsIdentify and implement system optimizationsDebug internal and field issues; develop tools and best practices for system monitoring and troubleshootingMentor and develop junior engineers in design and development best practicesContribute to value engineering of the system’s electrical and controls hardware components25% travel expected to support onsite system testingA day in the lifeAmazon offers a full range of benefits that support you and eligible family members, including domestic partners and their children. If you’re passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply!Basic Qualifications1+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experienceKnowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, RubyBS / MS Electrical Engineering (or similar field)Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, Siemens PLCs, and/or Soft PLCs/IPCs6 years of experience in electrical control systemsDemonstrated experience with IEC standards for electrical controls for roboticsDemonstrated experience with Functional Safety standardsDemonstrable skills in developing testable applicationsSolid debugging skills and the ability to diagnose and solve difficult problemsCommitment to rigorous testing practices and design process flowsDesire to work in a fast-paced environmentAbility to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective waysExcellent written and oral communication skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience with PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or JavaExperience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodologyKnowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software / hardware / network development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operationsExperience developing controls code utilizing Codesys platformExperience with TCIP and industrial networksExperience with HMI design and developmentAmazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
