Job Requirements / Description
ROLE PURPOSE
- The Principal Environmental Engineer will lead a global matrix team working on environmental and sustainability aspects of new process and product development, located at the Tate & Lyle’s site in Hoffman Estates.
- The ideal candidate will have relevant industrial experience in a combination of sustainability, energy, water, and greenhouse gas reduction and Sustainability Program Management.
- The successful candidate needs to re-imagine processes for current and new products that will lead to sustainable solutions, deliver tangible process development outputs in line with customer expectations and company sustainability metrics.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide engineering expertise to successfully develop, pilot, and commercialize new processes and products, design lab, pilot, and commercial trials followed by evaluation and documentation of results.
- Incorporate sustainability in the early stage of process development where the ability to impact is the highest with water reduction, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction.
- Drive innovation working with a variety of internal partners – R&D Engineers & Scientists, Global Operations, Procurement, Strategy & Finance to identify and analyze leading technologies for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, reduction in water usage, and waste generation.
- Collaborate with Global Operations to develop economic evaluations, implement new technology to support the development of water and energy balances for NPD and capex as needed. Provide post-commercialization troubleshooting working together with manufacturing.
- Guide Project Managers in defining and supporting NPD projects with sustainability benefits - Lead aspects of technology scouting, technical review, financial evaluation, risk management, and data collection to support project approval and execution.
- Support the development of Product Carbon Footprint for Tate & Lyle’s existing and future products.
- Lead or act as key technical contributor to complex new ingredient and development projects including M&A support with very high impact on the business.
EHSQS:
- Perform, maintain, and improve the EHSQS standards and T&L requirements.
- Participate actively in the Company’s EHSQS program including training and audits.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES
- The incumbent will be measured against the development and execution of the sustainability program and measured against progress towards attaining our corporate sustainability goals.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering/Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Social Governance (ESG) or related disciplines with 8+ years of industrial experience or an MS in Environmental Engineering/Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines with 10+ years of industrial experience.
- The ideal candidate will be passionate about creating a sustainable future by designing and executing novel solutions through various stages of process development.
