Associate Director, UI Extension / CALS

The University of Idaho seeks to hire a Full Professor for a tenured fiscal year Extension Specialist appointment to serve as Associate Director. This serves as the faculty appointment classification. Rank of Full Professor and Tenure will be awarded only if the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws.

The Associate Director is responsible for statewide coordination of the University of Idaho Extension programs, system-wide program planning, and accountability including preparation of the plan of work, coordination of professional development, and evaluation of Extension programs. The Associate Director provides leadership and coordination of statewide agriculture programs.

The Associate Director reports to the Associate Dean and Director, University of Idaho Extension. The Associate Director is an integral member of the college and the Extension leadership team and will be involved in personnel and fiscal decisions of UI Extension. This position is located in the Boise area and is accompanied by a 15% base salary stipend.

This administrative appointment or the administrative portion of the faculty appointment is temporary. Employee acknowledges and agrees that in the event there is no longer a need for the administrative assignment, as determined by University in its sole discretion, University may change this Agreement and remove the administrative salary and/or course release during the contract year and employee may return to their faculty appointment, upon 60 days written notice.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Degree Required

Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. with at least one Master’s degree in the field of agriculture and/or natural resources, including areas such as Agricultural Education, Animal Science, Applied Economics, Child Development, Dietetics, Entomology, Family and Consumer Sciences, Food Science, Nutritional Sciences, Plant Pathology, Plant Science, Soil and Land Resources, Water Resources, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a Master’s that closely aligns with these fields of study.
  • Must hold the rank of tenured full professor or their equivalent at an accredited university program, or a professional record that would qualify for full professor and tenure at the University of Idaho.
  • Minimum of five years of work experience with Extension program development, personnel leadership and program administration.
  • Experience with the mission of the land-grant university.
  • Experience working in a team, diversity in management and promotion of programs and resources.
  • Experience with leading an inclusive team, empowers others to succeed, fosters respect, builds pride in the accomplishment of shared goals, and feeds upon two-way communication.
  • Experience communicating, engaging, partnering, and collaborating with stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience serving as an Extension faculty member in the agriculture area.
  • Documented success of grantsmanship and/or securing external funding.
  • Degree or formal training in evaluation.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Willingness and ability to travel to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
