SUMMARY The U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) of the U.S. Army Research Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) is the Army's corporate laboratory. It's a diverse assortment of unique facilities and a dedicated workforce of government and private sector partners make up the largest source of world-class integrated research and analysis in the U.S. Army. ARL discovers, innovates and transitions research in order to provide the best technologies for our Soldiers. ARL's program consists of basic and applied research and survivability/lethality and human factors analysis. The Linux Systems Administrator/Engineer - Vulnerability Remediation Team will be responsible for the remediation, patching, and upgrading of all Linux systems within the Army Research Lab Enterprise Environment. This position requires the use of scripting, automation, and 3rd party remediation tools to efficiently manage vulnerabilities. Experience working in centralized management environments using remote access techniques is required.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Create automated patch deployments using Ansible, Tanium, and Puppet to patch and upgrade RedHat Servers and Endpoints. Interpret Nessus scan results to develop remediation strategies for efficient patching. Prevent the blocking of systems by remediating all vulnerabilities within 30 days of publication. Conduct STIG scans and validation to ensure compliance with all applicable security controls. Test patches and upgrades. Process Change Requests for Patch Deployments.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Certifications DoD IAT Level II Certification. Linux Computing Environment Certification (Must obtain within 90 days of starting).
Education, Background, and Years of Experience Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Related Field. Meet or Exceed IAT II 8570 baseline certification requirements. RedHat or Ansible Certifications desired. Strong background in RMF, STIG and compliance.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills 7-10 years of combined Education and Experience administering Linux systems in an enterprise environment.
Preferred Skills Ansible Puppet RedHat or CentOS
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions Contractor site with 0%-10% travel possible. Possible off-hours work to support releases and outages. General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. Hybrid, Hybrid schedule to be determined with hiring manager once fully brought up to speed. Initial on site work required.
Strength Demands Sedentary - 10 lbs. Maximum lifting, occasional lift/carry of small articles. Some occasional walking or standing may be required. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
