Description:
The role of the Server and Application Monitoring Engineer is to provide engineering and monitoring services for the evolution of the Monitoring and Event Management Platforms.
The work is always in alignment to the current and approved architectural, roadmaps, technology standards and templates, governance and change management policies set forth by the Bank.
Following established written procedures, guidelines and techniques, develops, enhances, tests, supports, maintains, and debugs software applications that support business units or support functions.
Fully competent to work under general direction on the most complex projects, often on multiple phases, and seeks guidance and direction from more senior associates or manager, as needed.
Working knowledge of business or function for which application is designed.
Often responsible for the completion of a phase of a project.
Maintain and support the Monitoring platforms while adhering to Bank policies and standards.
Participate in and help coordinate maintenance activities.
Guide and mentor, a teams of specialists assigned to provide operational support of Monitoring Tools.
Advise server and application support teams on how best to use Event Management functions.
Develop, update and test server & application monitoring solutions most often in various scripting languages.
Perform and assist with troubleshooting server & application issues that may or may not have monitoring solutions in place.
Respond to incidents for application availability issues as part of on-call duties.
Develop software solutions to address manual work, repeatable work or inefficient processes that can be improved.
Prepare and maintain Monitoring solution design, support & process documentation.
Support efforts to design, integrate and implement monitoring and event management solutions for core infrastructure, cloud infrastructure, applications, performance monitoring, and synthetic monitoring.
Required Skills:
Minimum 5+ years of experience with IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM)
Must have experience with ITM Log Monitoring
Good understanding of IBM Netcool Omnibus and the communication between ITM and Netcool
Strong experience working with Linux & Windows servers
Strong knowledge and working experience with Regex
Strong experience scripting on Windows servers using Powershell
Experience working with scripting on Linux servers using Shell & Python.
Experience implementing and configuring multiple IBM Netcool/Impact clusters for high availability.
Experience integrating IBM Netcool/Impact with varied data source types and databases.
Code and support IPL and JavaScript language IBM Netcool/Impact policies
Strong troubleshooting skills of end-to-end processes in a multi-tier IBM Netcool/Omnibus architecture.
Desired Skills:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, related field and or technical training
Experience with comparable monitoring tools
Self-starter, self-directed and shows initiative
Focused on execution, delivery, and commitment to dates
Skills in scripting is desired, such as with Python, Ansible, Shell, Powershell
Basic knowledge of Active Directory
Can tie strategy and actions to business impact and results
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Organized and detail oriented; must have a strong technical acumen
Ability to partner with others for the good of the initiative
