Overview:
We are seeking a Process Reliability Engineer who will focus on people, processes and mechanical systems in support of the SNS target systems with emphasis on improving equipment reliability and process efficiency. This position resides in the Target Systems Group in the Research Accelerator Division, Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Our group is responsible for the development, design, installation, operation and maintenance of complex and unique water and gas utility systems which support neutron production and neutron beam instrument systems.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Administer and Conduct the Target Systems Reliability Program
Schedule and lead system health evaluations and reports
Develop reliability metrics and test plans for performance improvement
Track and improve failure rates of processes and components
Develop root-cause-analysis/failure modes effects analysis for equipment
Improve preventative maintenance schedules
Work independently to develop methodologies to improve overall process efficiency by analyzing current workflows and applying lean management methodologies
Apply the STAR system to conduct system health reports and evaluate system reliability
Assist system engineers in determining appropriate spare parts inventories
Support target systems using a systems engineering approach
Develop system maintenance and repair plans
Apply a data-driven approach to eliminate equipment obsolescence issues
Provide project and budgetary planning data to ensure process and equipment reliability
Increase compliance to system requirements
Develop understanding of credited engineering controls and ensure configuration management requirements and systems integrity is maintained
Serve as the Material Balance Area (MBA) for the ORNL Nuclear Material Control and Accountability program
Serve as project engineer on Target Systems projects
Plan, schedule, and coordinate resources to effectively complete project related activities

Basic Qualifications:
BS in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, statistics, or industrial engineering with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience as a Reliability Engineer or Maintenance Engineer in an industrial setting
Experience with industrial asset and inventory management
Demonstrated experience with process improvement techniques
Excellent communication skills, ability to work independently and lead from knowledge and experience
Must have the ability to function as part of a design team consisting of scientific specialists, engineers and designers to meet project cost and schedule goals
Preferred Qualifications:
MS in a relevant field with at least 4 years of proven experience
Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification
A proficient knowledge of CAD modeling
Engineering design and testing experience
