The Mechanical Project Engineer will work semi-independently under the general supervision of project managers or senior engineers applying various design engineering techniques, modeling methods, and construction support to deliver successful fisheries, hydropower, and water resource related projects for federal, local municipalities, and private utility companies. A background with a variety of mechanical systems such as pumps, piping, water control gates, valves, hoists, cranes, hydraulic power systems, and other systems typical for a dam or hydropower site is highly desired. Experience with hydropower facilities, process piping design, fish hatcheries, and/or fish passage facilities is also beneficial.


Responsibilities:



  • Collects field data and gathers information or documents.

  • Communicates effectively with internal and external clients.

  • Reads and interprets engineering documents including drawings, specifications, reports, codes and standards, etc.

  • Performs moderately complex to complex engineering design tasks with moderate to minimal support from senior engineers.

  • Performs engineering design calculations that support design decisions.

  • Produces written technical reports.

  • Produces contract plans and specifications documents.

  • Performs QA/QC to ensure construction activities comply with contract requirements.

  • Assists/Leads facility or system startup and commissioning activities.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited institution

  • EIT required, with ability to obtain PE within 1 year.

  • Experience 5 to 10 years post degree with a history of steady technical progression.

  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

  • Skill in reading, interpreting and communicating contract documents, plans and specifications

  • Adept in the use of 3D parametric modeling software such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.

  • Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to heavy industrial facilities. Knowledge of dams, hydropower, and fish passage facilities a plus.

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks

  • Must have a flexible schedule, be willing to travel, and be flexible with quick response time in order to compensate for the customer's changing needs in multiple states and provinces. The majority of our work is in the western US, but travel to Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada is not unusual.

  • Must be able to work in a team environment, effectively leading tasks, work independently and be self-motivated.


Compensation Package:



  • Pay Range: $88,951 - $143,000 annual (DOE)
