Description
The Senior Civil Engineer plays a crucial role in leading the design and development of solar PV projects. This position involves collaborating with project development, construction teams, and electrical engineers to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation of design documents for photovoltaic solar projects including calculations, drawings, and civil specifications.
- Complete grading design, earthwork calculations and hydrological calculations.
- Design solar facilities with complex topographic, environmental, and other constraints.
- Prepare final Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans.
- Review plans and specifications for constructability, site constraints, topography, and risk management.
- Communicate with 3rd party engineering vendors as needed.
- Demonstrate structural, mechanical, and electrical high level design skills with the ability to generate accurate, highly detailed construction drawings and documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Consult and coordinate with engineering staff on project layouts and reports and hold accountable for timely submittals of deliverables.
- Prepare design packages, milestone submissions, and as-built signoffs.
- Once/if PE certificate is obtained, sign off on ("stamp") final civil plan sets.
- Coordinate design work with the Director of Electrical Engineering as needed.
- Coordinate technical activities and designs with the Project Development teams for permitting, title, environmental, and local government agencies, as needed.
- Coordinate with Construction staff to complete designs and project plan sets prior to deadlines in order to efficiently schedule Construction activities as needed.
- Provide value engineering.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and problem solving.
- Have a high level of familiarity with the National Electric Code regarding PV Solar Systems.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Three years minimum of engineering experience performing civil design and development of solar projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Proficiency with reading blueprints, plans, specs, contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
- Must be detail-oriented and efficient in problem solving.
- Must have interest in renewable energy development and design.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- PE or EIT preferred.
- Proficiency with Procore, or similar construction management software.
- NCEES Council Record is preferred.
- Willingness and ability to clearly define objectives, exercise sound technical judgment, take on increasing levels of responsibility and to thrive in a small, flexible and dynamic work environment.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills, including the ability to communicate in a positive manner with project managers, other engineering/design team members, management and installation contractors to foster an environment of superior coordination.
- Good problem solving and critical thinking abilities and a proactive work ethic. Must take accountability of own body of work, closing each project by design completion efficiently, while maintaining accuracy and strict attention to detail.
- Strong ability to apply innovative and creative skills to problem solving.
- Experience with on-site troubleshooting of technology and automation of manual processes.
