As part of our Camera Technologies group, you’ll help design the innovative technology that allows each generation of Apple products to produce photos even more incredible than the last. You’ll design and develop groundbreaking ideas for everything involved in our camera systems, from sensor to lens. You’ll collaborate with teams across Apple to research, design, develop, test, and qualify camera hardware for Apple products. Together, we’ll craft a magical photography experience that redefines what millions of customers can expect from their cameras.
The Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for all research design development test and qualification of camera hardware for Apple products. The team is looking for an Optical Systems Engineer to work on advanced optical technology development.
Description
- Design new lenses characterize and integrate into CMOS imager sensor-based camera modules.
- Complete analysis of the optical element's influence on the image quality characteristics of the camera module.
- Work closely with lens supplier for prototype design evaluation and MTF testing.
- Drive development of advanced metrology methods.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS and prior relevant experience.
Key Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred degrees: Optical Science, Optical Engineering, Physics or Mathematics.
- Experience in the area of lens design metrology and integration.
- Experience in lens design tolerance and stray light analysis.
- Experience in lens characterization methodology and instrumentation.
- Proficiency using an optical software package. Examples may include: ZEMAX CODE V FRED LightTool etc.
- Ability to perform comprehensive optical and image quality characterization of the lens and the camera module.
- Support metrology methodology for camera lens testing and develop appropriate test charts and methods for camera evaluation.
- Collaborate with the assembly and packaging groups to support integration of camera lens into module.
- Must be high energy multi-tasker resourceful problem solver ability to work within tight deadlines.
- Take initiative.
- Effective communicator and collaborator between cross-functional groups.
- Working knowledge of optomechanics is a plus.

- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $135,400 and $250,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
