Education/ Experience: Any combination equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Three (3) years of journey level experience in automotive or diesel technologies with a working knowledge of information technology systems.
OR
Two (2) years of formal training from an accredited college, vocational, or trade school in automotive, diesel technology, or a related field.
AND
One (1) year of verifiable work experience as an automotive or diesel technician with a working knowledge of information technology systems.
Knowledge of: Techniques, procedures, and tools used for installation, maintenance, and repair of vehicle auxiliary systems including but not limited to: GPS systems, 700/800 MHz radio systems, camera systems, software and hardware updates, and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other related programs.
Skills and Abilities: Work both independently and as a team leader; Ability to use Excel, Word, and Access programs with a high level of expertise; Perform strenuous physical work; Interpret wiring diagrams and color coding; Interpret verbal and written communications; Create, learn, and apply procedures related to the position; Operate class B and C motor vehicles safely; Write legibly, prepare, and maintain records; Create statistical and informational data; Possess a working knowledge of automotive and diesel electrical systems; Perform software/hardware installations and upgrades; Establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid Nevada State Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with a driving record acceptable to the District along with the ability to obtain additional licenses or certifications relating to the job duties. Able to obtain the following ASE certifications A6, S1, S6, and T6 within 12 months from hire date.
Special Considerations: Must have a set of tools at time of hire.
Physical demands: Occasional lifting of 20-100 pounds, frequent lifting of 5-20 pounds. Extended amount of time standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, climbing, and bending over; exposure to the elements which include but are not limited to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.

FLEET ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under minimal supervision, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains an accurate inventory of the auxiliary systems installed on the District's Yellow and White Fleets. The systems to be maintained will include but are not limited to: 700/800 MHZ radios, Zonar GPS systems, digital camera systems, and other systems as they are introduced.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Involves diagnosing, performing installations, repairs, and maintenance of auxiliary and electronic systems installed on District Yellow and White Fleet vehicles in addition to maintaining a comprehensive inventory of all systems and components.
- Reviews and analyzes statistical and informational data related to the initiatives and priorities of transportation auxiliary and electronic systems;
- compiles reports and prepares charts, graphs, and diagrams to display the data and analyses;
- assists in the development and maintenance of queries and reports pertaining to transportation auxiliary and electronic systems;
- works collaboratively with other department staff;
- assists Transportation Fleet administration in resolving issues and concerns;
- coordinates the implementation of auxiliary and electronic systems;
- communicates data analysis findings and research information, making complex statistical elements "user-friendly" for data users;
- manages multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously, develops and tracks project timelines, and prioritizes accordingly.
- Performs preventative maintenance, installations, repairs, and system updates to auxiliary and electronic systems on District Yellow and White Fleet vehicles.
- Schedules and prioritizes testing of all systems to ensure proper operation.
- Maintains a comprehensive record of inventories for all auxiliary and electronic systems.
- Operates and updates diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot auxiliary and electronic systems.
- Works as a liaison with other agencies and serves on support committees.
- Works with outside vendors for warranty and general repair of auxiliary and electronic systems.
- Coordinates and supervises staff to complete special Transportation projects.
- Responsible for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous e-waste materials.
- Conforms to all safety standards and protocols as prescribed.
- Researches, implements, evaluates and analyzes data pertaining to the goals, objectives, implementation and priorities for/timely completion of auxiliary and electronics systems projects including monitoring and communicating the status of projects;
- manages the implementation of multiple transportation auxiliary and electronics projects;
- Works directly with transportation administrators to implement, maintain and improve transportation auxiliary and electronic services, uses expertise and skills to handle the technical and logistical dimensions of electronic implementation in a transportation environment.
- Performs other tasks related to the position as assigned.
