RIE Consultants is a water resources engineering firm focusing on hydrology, hydraulics, and water quality of natural and built environments. We provide H&H engineering and modeling services in support of the design and upgrade of water, wastewater, stormwater, hydropower, flood protection, and fish passage facilities, such as pump intakes, pipelines, treatment plants, outfalls, bank protection, levees, culverts, bridges, and habitat and stream restoration. Besides providing 1-D and 2-D H&H modeling services, RIE specializes in 3-D hydrodynamic and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and hydraulic surge/transient analyses. RIE is a Redmond, WA-based company serving clients across the United States and in international locations.


RIE has an immediate opening for an early to mid-career water resource engineer to work on stream restoration, fish passage facilities design, hydrology, numerical modeling, CSO and stormwater modeling, and hydraulic design projects. RIE is looking for ambitious candidates who are interested in challenging and rewarding careers with the potential for rapid growth and exposure to a wide range of projects and responsibilities. This position is based in Redmond, WA and can work in person, hybrid, or remotely depending on the level of experience and preference of the candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, calibrate, and validate hydrologic and hydraulic numerical models.
  • Delineate floodplains and create flood hazard maps.
  • Design hydraulic structures such as bridges, culverts, levees, and fish passages.
  • Design systems for scour countermeasures and streambank erosion protection.
  • Perform hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality modeling in support of stormwater and CSO facilities planning and design, including collection systems, conveyance, treatment facilities, and outfalls.
  • Typical assignments include review of existing information, numerical hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, water resources engineering design, data analysis, site visits, and preparation of engineering reports or memoranda.


Qualifications and Experience

  • BS or higher degree in civil and environmental engineering or a related field; a graduate degree is preferred.
  • Specialized experience or training in hydrologic analysis, hydraulic design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, sediment transport, geomorphology, and stream restoration.
  • Strong technical writing background and abilities to prepare written reports and communicate effectively.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to solve problems with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively on project teams.
  • Proficiency in 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D numerical models for simulating open channel and closed conduit flow, sediment, and water quality parameters, such as HEC-RAS 1D and 2D, AdH, SRH-2D, SWMM, HSPF, and MIKE series of hydraulic and hydrologic models are desirable.
  • Experience with CFD modeling will be good but not required.
  • Proficiency in GIS and CAD software programs.
  • Motivation to learn new tools and techniques.
