Build and Release Engineering (BRE) group is a new unit responsible for supporting the CI infrastructures and processes for the majority of Alarm.com engineering teams.
The build and release engineer designs and develops applications to deliver integration and automation solutions across Alarm.com's infrastructure and applications stack throughout the entire life-cycle. This position works closely with Engineering, Quality Engineering, Operations, and Release Management in on-boarding of new and existing life safety and home automation applications to the cloud and serves as the main liaison between Release Management, Engineering, and Operations in the delivery of automation solutions and software deployment frameworks from inception to development to production to maintenance. This role also works side-by-side with Engineering and Operations in all technical aspects of the Alarm.com cloud and applications with an ever-watchful eye on their availability, latency, performance, and capacity.
Responsibilities
- Infrastructure management
- Create, decommission, and monitor build and release VMs / containers
- Create, delete, and update associated storage, secret management, and deployment infrastructure
- CI/CD pipeline management
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines with tools, integration, and automation
- Adopt the GitOps principle in the CI/CD pipeline management
- Fulfill build and release operations
- Manage and monitor CI processes
- Responsible for major artifact creations and deployments
- Support engineer teams in troubleshooting
- Handle emergencies when on pager duty.
- Other Duties as assigned
Requirements
- B.A. or B.S. (or higher level degree) in Computer Science or a similar engineering program
- 2-4 years of relevant work experience in software engineering or related fields
- Experience in Build and Release
- Strong programming knowledge and experience in C#, Java, or a modern programming language
- Hands-on experience in various shell scripts including but not limited to:
- Bash and/or Zsh and/or PowerShell
- Mid-level OS knowledge and experience in Linux distros and/or Mac and/or Windows server
- Experience operating in an Agile development process and team environment
- Be a self-starter capable to take initiative in investigating and resolving challenging issues
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for daily technical communications and documentation tasks
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with: MS SQL DB, or a relational SQL DB
- Ember.js or a similar web framework experience is optional but preferred
- Experience in utilizing design patterns in design/development
