The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for an Associate Director of Broadcast Engineering to work with the Sport and Broadcast Production unit.

The Associate Director of Broadcast Engineering is responsible for supporting the overall technical infrastructure of the Sport and Broadcast Production unit and the Department of Athletics as a whole. The Associate Director of Broadcast Engineering will work closely with the Director of Engineering to oversee maintenance, troubleshooting, and operations of broadcast and audio systems within the Department of Athletics and will serve as the technical lead for event crews to successfully execute broadcast and video board productions.

The Associate Director of Broadcast Engineering will be responsible for duties including, but not limited to:

  1. Oversee maintenance and technical operations of broadcast and audio/video systems.
  2. Act as Engineer in Charge for ACC Network/ESPN and Hoovision (video board) broadcasts, including control room and venue setup, equipment management, and crew oversight.
  3. Maintain in-venue videoboard displays and associated support.
  4. Install and support audio and video equipment.
  5. Provide exemplary customer service and act as a technical liaison to teams and units.
  6. Collaborate on enhancements and strategic initiatives.
  7. Manage daily schedules, make independent decisions, and ensure approved purchasing.
  8. Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Background and proficiency in broadcast engineering and video/audio signal flow.
  • A positive mentality and high energy level with the ability to excel in a fast-paced and high-pressure "live" environment, working quickly and completing tasks effectively.
  • The ability to work as a part of a team, accept feedback and guidance and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • A problem-solving focus.
  • Commitment to NCAA, ACC, and institutional rules compliance.

Anticipated hiring range: $60,000 - $70,000, dependent upon qualifications. The selected candidate will pass a background check. This is a full-time position with UVa benefits. Employees benefits package highlights include:

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree with a major/minor in a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience: At least one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Network Engineering Technology, or a related field.

Preferred experience includes: Significant sports broadcast and network engineering experience.

Physical Demands:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
