Systems Firmware Engineer – Defense Search

Immediate opening for a Senior Design Engineer in Vista, CA who possesses:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field
- 7+ years of industry experience with systems firmware engineering experience
- Must have experience within wireless communications firmware engineering, RF engineering experience is highly preferred
- Must have strong experience with ARM processors, experience with NXP power PC is preferred
- Must have understanding of FPGA's, design and debugging

FULL DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the design, implementation, test and documentation of firmware for company communications products. Works with little supervision on day-to-day work as member of an integrated development team. Works on problems of moderate to diverse scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Uses professional concepts and industry practices; applies company policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Defines, designs and implements software sub-systems, functions and modules for new or existing products.
- Maintains legacy firmware to resolve known issues and add features.
- Performs testing and debugging of software and hardware troubleshooting during software development
- Generates, maintains, and documents software requirements and unit test requirements.
- Generates and updates software design artifacts in area of responsibility
- Attends and contributes to software code and design reviews.
- Provide schedule inputs for areas of responsibility
- Live according to the company's core values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures including work rules, safety standards and departmental operating procedures
The selected candidate will also possess:
- General principles of RTOS operation and embedded systems and development environments (compilers, debuggers, etc.)
- C/C++ programming expertise and assembly programming understanding
- ARM processor experience, “FreeRTOS” experience and working with ST-Micro based integrated development tools
- NXP PowerPC processor experience, VxWorks RTOS experience and working with “WindRiver” Tornado development environment
- IP protocol stack working knowledge, socket-based communication
- Ability to understand digital board schematics and understand components such as processors, memory, FPGAs, etc.
- Working knowledge of serial (RS232 and USB) and Ethernet-based interfaces
- Understanding analog and RF circuitry and their interfacing with processor
- Understanding embedded firmware in FPGAs particularly VHDL coding of Xilinx-based programmable products
- Experience with Systems Level development.
- Experience operating in an IDE debugging/development – ICE, Visual Studio
- Demonstrated understanding of SNMP protocol
- Understanding of C++/C# PC-based programming
- General knowledge of radio communications systems (AM, FM, FSK, PSK, QAM, etc.) and concepts such as modem operation
- Knowledge of CVSD and other vocoder technologies
- Understanding of COMSEC, ECCM and GPS principles
Salary Range: $150k-$175k/yr
