Your Role: Tetra Tech is seeking a driven full-time Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Project Manager for our Northeast operations with the ability to manage our Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Inspections and Testing Department. Job responsibilities the selected candidate will serve a lead function in include:

  • Support project and business development activities, proposal and budget development, strategic planning, building relationships with existing and potential clients, and managing client interaction.
  • Provide high level consultation to clients.
  • Manage staff and provide staff training and project leadership.
  • Manage geotechnical and construction inspection projects.
  • Geotechnical engineering including coordination and supervising SPT boring and rock core drilling, subsurface evaluations and preparation of geotechnical subsurface investigation reports, foundation evaluation (e.g., foundation types, bearing capacities, settlement analyses, etc.), slope stability evaluation, flexible and rigid pavements.
  • Construction inspection and testing (soil, concrete, masonry, structural steel, spray applied fireproofing, etc.), preparation of field reports, geotechnical field consulting, and evaluation of adverse earthwork conditions.
  • Manage our geotechnical laboratory and able to conduct laboratory testing.
  • Periodic travel to project sites for meetings, audits, or other activities.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have 10-20 years of proven experience in special inspections, geotechnical engineering, and materials testing, with a track record of successful project delivery. Qualified candidates must also have/be:
  • Construction experience and ability to trouble shoot issues in the field.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to read and speak English fluently with outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Successful demonstration of subject matter expertise and technical leadership, and teamwork skills to support project pursuits and implementation of projects with existing and new clients.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry-specific software and tools.
  • Able to work with team members, clients and other professional disciplines.
  • Must be able to interact successfully with all levels of staff, clients and vendors, work in a collaborative process, able to plan, and organize and implement with successful and timely results.
In addition:
  • This position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
Degree / Certifications:
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical applications
  • M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred, plus equivalent experience.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, or ability to become registered within 6 months.
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to occasionally travel to project sites and work in the field during all seasons and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift heavy loads (up to 30 pounds).
Work Environment:
  • Work will be in both office and project site settings.
