Oxbow Calcining LLC is currenlty looking for a Controls Engineer to join the team in Port Arthur, Texas. The Controls Engineer ensures the reliability/effectiveness of the various control systems in facility. In addition, the Controls Engineer will develop/implement long-range plans for process controls, focusing on hardware/software upgrades, advanced control strategies, and industry trends for instrumentation and operator interfaces.
Essential Job Duties:
  • Responsible for providing a reliable system and implementing control strategies, which protect the health of the processes, the environment, and the people in the facility.
  • Responsible for alarm management, developing methods to ensure compliance, and activities to rationalize alarm settings and priorities.
  • Develop and maintain an evergreen 5-year plan for upgrades to the Process Control Systems in the facility.
  • Interface with the plant's technical and operating departments to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Work with the process, operations, and field technicians to troubleshoot control loops and effectively tune loops.
  • Support operations by maintaining and enhancing process control applications and assets.
  • Develop, modify, and tune control strategies for continued and improved operation.
  • Provide basic control assistance and advanced control for multi-variable controllers operating in the facility.
  • Use knowledge of Ethernet networking, FactoryTalk, and PlantPax to create and improve controls methodology and user interaction.
  • Provide technical support to the design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of PLCs, automation systems and Safety Instrumented Systems.
  • Develop graphics and train operators on process control strategies and changes.
  • Work with project engineers on projects and participate in offsite control related FAT as required.
  • Responsible for development of new control strategies as needed for new projects.
  • Mentor electricians, instrumentation, and automation techs in developing their skills.
  • Create and/or maintain accurate drawings, equipment files, and documents.
  • Interface with the management and corporate teams to keep apprised of company-wide initiatives and provide support, as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems, especially Allen Bradley.
  • Experience with FactoryTalk View, FactoryTalk Historian and interfacing analog and digital information within a controls system.
  • Understanding of IT/OT relationship.
  • Communicates clearly and conciselyin a variety of communication settings and styles. Effectively tailors the message to the needs of the audience.
  • Establishes goals and objectives which are specific, measurable, achievable and relevant.
  • Lays out work in a well-planned and organized manner.
  • Knowledgeable of pneumatic instrumentation: calibration and maintenance.
  • Skillful in reading electronic schematics, identifying components, and understanding their functions.
Requirements
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience required, 3 years preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
Physical Requirements
  • Typically sits or stands for an extended amount of time in front of a computer.
  • Physical ability to work on and around industrial equipment, including frequent climbing or stairs and ladders to elevated heights.
  • May work outdoors which may include extreme working conditions and inclement weather conditions.
  • As needed, lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Must train in safety requirements at the facility.
  • May be required to move about to coordinate work.
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Must be able to travel as needed.
  • Will be on call as needed.
