Job Description - Distribution Planning Engineer I - Sr (DOE)UniSource provides safe, reliable electric service to more than 91,000 customers in Mohave and Santa Cruz counties. In Mohave County, we provide service to Kingman, located in the high desert central portion of the county, and Lake Havasu City, situated in the low desert along the Colorado River. Position Description
To perform short and longterm planning to meet present and future load growth and prepare Planning memos for distribution system modifications and for capital additions to the distribution system.
Position-Related Responsibilities
* Prepare load, contingency, and area studies to develop company plans for distribution system expansion and modification.
* Prepare load projection estimates.
* Collect, maintain, create, and establish database records such as substation field data, load profile data, transformer and feeder capacities and loading, var and power factor data.
* Perform system analysis including capacitor bank, regulator, and recloser sizing and placement along with sectionalizing studies, fault current and protection coordination studies, and specify relay setting and fuse sizes.
* Prepare Planning Memoranda for new substations, substation equipment additions, system reinforcement projects, and other distribution system projects.
* Review Public Improvement Plans and other plans and make recommendations for future feeder needs and possible facility abandonment.
* Provide system forecast information to other departments.
* Prepare reports or information for reports as required.
* Recommend substation, sub-transmission and distribution system design guidelines. Serve on Material Standards and construction Standards Committee's.
* Manage system loads and write switching orders and dispatch switching orders during emergency situations.
* Provide technical support for Construction, Substation, Metering departments, System Operations, and Black Mountain Generating Station (when requested).
* Rotate as on call duty supervisor.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
* This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Engineer I
Will have primary responsibility for small modification or revision projects.
Will assist more experienced engineers in large projects.
Will assist in the review and revision of material and design standards.
High school diploma or GED.
BS degree in Electrical Engineering is required, an emphasis in power related classes is preferred, and less than two years professional experience in an engineering role.
Requires close supervision and detailed instruction for tasks and expected results.
Engineer II
Engineer I duties.
Will have primary responsibility for medium sized projects and act as the project engineer/manager.
May be assigned to perform technical studies as needed.
May have several projects assigned at the same time.
Requires close supervision on new aspects of assignments.
Minimum qualifications of Level I.
Requires two or more years' professional experience as an Engineer I, or MSEE with an emphasis in power related classes.
Shall have strong analytical capabilities.
Engineer III
Engineer II duties.
Will have primary responsibility for medium to large projects and act as the project engineer/manager.
May have several projects or studies assigned at the same time and may assist other engineers in large projects.
Will direct the designs of technicians when necessary.
Follows approved standards in design with minor modifications.
Can represent UNSE when meeting with other Companies or organizations.
Requires technical guidance and supervision on non-standard assignments projects.
Requires two or more years of professional experience as an Engineer II.
Is a self-starter and has developed good time management skills, completing all assignments on time.
Has developed good leadership skills and is fully comfortable leading meetings and speaking in front of others.
Engineer IV
Engineer III duties.
Will have primary responsibility for projects of any size or complexity and act as the project engineer/manager.
Approves design changes and creates new design standards.
Will assist in training of less experienced engineers or technicians.
Requires two or more years of professional experience as an Engineer III.
Is able to work independently on most projects but needs technical guidance on unusual or complex projects, and supervisory approval on proposed plans.
Time management, technical knowledge, and economic consideration are exhibited in all assignments.
Basic leadership skills have been developed.
Engineer Senior Lead
Engineer IV duties.
A top-level individual contributor who may be assigned any project that is within the section's responsibilities.
They will be the primary source of training for the section and will share information openly.
Will assist in personnel selection.
Primary focus will be on supervisory skills training, but must be technically proficient.
Provides direct backup support for section
Supervisor in allocating work assignments to other engineering personnel, preparing and doing performance evaluation and assist in manpower planning.
Makes decisions independently and does not require guidance or supervision on any technical or project management duty.
Needs guidance only on overall objectives, policy matters or critical issues.
Requires two or more years of professional experience as an Engineer IV.
Proficient in all aspects of time management, project organization, and technical analysis.
Demonstrates strong leadership skills and supports all decision making with superior technical knowledge and economic analysis.
Engineer Senior Technical
Engineer IV duties.
A top-level individual contributor who may be assigned complex, multiple projects that are within the section's responsibilities.
Provides leadership to the section from a technical standpoint.
Will be the primary source of technical training for the section and will share information openly.
Will be the first option in performing technical studies and applying new designs and technical solutions.
Primary focus will be on technical development.
They may be assigned as a mentor to new or less experienced engineers in the section from a technical standpoint.
Requires two or more years of professional experience as an Engineer IV.
Makes decisions independently and does not require guidance or supervision on any technical or project management duty.
Supports all decision making with superior technical knowledge and economic analysis.
Has genuine interest in technical areas and further increasing technical knowledge in their specific area.
