Systems Engineer I

Summary of Position:
Responsible for building out, maintaining, and troubleshooting, as well as demonstrating technical competency, delivering mission-critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and security.
Essential Functions:

• Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure
• Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
• Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
• Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions and work independently with developers to implement those fixes
• Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
• Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
• Applying systems analysis technics and procedures to participate in the design of information and operational support systems
• Provide 2nd and 3rd level support
• Consistently exercise discretion and judgment in the application of applying systems techniques and procedures to determine hardware, software, or system functional specifications.
• Responsible for the development, procurement, installation and maintenance of systems-level software and utilities for both existing and new systems.
• Analyzes and evaluates current and projected applications and/or systems, with being a liaison with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
• Troubleshoot customers reported issues
• Train customers and provide documentation on tools usage
• Develop and monitor systems telemetry
• Design and implementation of tools
• Attend online meetings and conference calls
• Report on and perform corrective action for systemic issues, developing internal tools and validation.
• Manage ticket queue and meet SLAs accurately documenting steps taken for resolution
• Monitor performance, availability and conditions in our heterogeneous computer and monitoring application environment
• Take appropriate actions to mitigate downtime and troubleshoot internal customer issues

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee in this position frequently communicates with other co-workers/clients who have inquiries about the various projects and other needs. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time. The employee in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operate a computer and office machinery such as a calculator, keyboard, copy machine and printer. Frequently moves boxes with equipment weighing up to 25lbs across the building and/or to other offsite buildings for various project needs.
Required Education and Experience:

• BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related subject
• 4-7 years of experience

Qualifications:

• BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
• Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux based environments.
• Solid experience in the administration and performance tuning of application stacks (e.g. Tomcat, JBoss, Apache, Ruby, NGIX)
• Solid Cloud experience, preferably in Azure and/or AWS
• Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V)
• Experienced on setting up and configuring Grafana/ Prmetheus
• Good communication and problem solving skills to debug issues / integrate using Json, API, CI/CD pipeline using scripts
• Experience with monitoring systems
• Experience with automation software (e.g., Puppet, cfengine, Chef)
• Experience creating Grafana dashboards to display time-based data plots
• Experience in APM and Reporting tools (Power BI/Grafana)
• Solid scripting skills (e.g. shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python)
• Solid Networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
• Should possess strong analytical skills, and effective interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a wide range of users with varying levels of technical proficiency.
• Able to follow up and drive issues from inception to completion.
• Passion for investigating issues to find root cause
• Familiar with network and active directory infrastructure
• Proven experience in supporting customer facing services
• PowerShell scripting skills
• Strong SQL management skills
• Maybe required to work a mid-day shift regularly
• Detail oriented with good data analysis/integration skills and can work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Possess the ability to identify, prioritize, and organize high priority issues
