Position: Database Engineering Manager
Location: Cleveland, Ohio – 3 days in office, 2 days remote
Salary: $111,000-143,000
Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science related field, or 12+ years of professional IT experience in lieu of a degree.
- 10+ years of professional IT experience, 4+ years of managing direct reports.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with the Oracle relational database.
- Exposure to other complimentary vendor products such as: Oracle Enterprise Manager, Cloud Control, ServiceNow, CyberArk, etc.
- Experience with Oracle Database 19c and Autonomous Database.
- Foundational understanding of Linux – client’s databases run on Linux platforms.
- Strong operational database background with a strong transformational mindset (will be helping to build out a new team function).
- Experience creating automation for process improvements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working within an Agile environment – team is currently trying to integrate more hybrid Agile practices.
- Experience with Privileged Access Management (PAM) tools.
- Experience implementing DevOps practices.
Position Overview:
Insight Global is seeking a Database Engineering Manager for one of our largest clients in Downtown Cleveland. The Manager will be managing 4-5 engineers out of the gate with the anticipation of growth over the next 12-18 months. This role will be mostly focused on people management, with up to 30% hands-on responsibility. The team will be responsible for providing architecture guidance, driving automation efforts, managing core toolsets, and maximizing the value of database technology investments through a product & platform delivery model. This individual will be providing consultative technical leadership across the organization, from strategic decision making to project planning to governance and oversight.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems and related technologies to serve as a source of information and advice for upper management.
- Serve as a bridge between highly technical and highly business-focused teams, facilitating understanding and brokering agreements to shared goals through collaboration.
- Develop methods and processes for integrating different products so they work properly together.
- Compile and recommend wants/needs for the annual budgeting process in Database technologies and prepare presentation to senior IT management.
- Manage technology life-cycle projects including technology evaluation, selection, implementation, support, and retirement/replacement.
- Provide technical specifications for application enhancements.
- Participate in application customizations and extensions.
- Conduct activities like staffing, performance, and resource management, and setting strategic direction of the team.
- Create and maintain development plans for each team member, including training, skills assessment, career planning, and goal planning.
