We're looking for a Senior Research Engineer to contribute invaluable support in the field of Reaction and Process Engineering for our Chemical and Process Engineering team. The primary objective of our research and development group is to establish and sustain BASF's technological excellence by creating groundbreaking solutions for BASF operations, enhancing methodologies for future advancements, and propelling new technologies forward.

As a Senior Research Engineer, you create chemistry by...

  1. Conducting research, innovating new processes and technologies, troubleshooting plant operations, optimizing performance, and designing new reactors and processes within the field of reaction engineering.
  2. Utilizing your specialized knowledge and experience, following global process engineering design rules and best practices, documenting results, and actively proposing new projects and optimizing existing ones.
  3. Managing diverse projects and independently interacting with stakeholders and customers to clarify needs.
  4. Contributing to the team's expertise development through research projects, facilitating know-how transfer, mentoring junior team members, potentially overseeing professionals and lab technicians, and acting as a functional lead for a virtual team.
  5. Ensuring adherence to EHS regulations, proactively initiating safety reviews for experiments, guaranteeing compliance, and undertaking delegated EHS responsibilities from senior management.
  6. Strengthening connections within the global Process Engineering community and local R&D community, actively cultivating and utilizing your network to accomplish project tasks and support project acquisition, guided by your manager.
  7. Expanding your network within the external R&D community and showcasing your expertise through academic conferences, including delivering scientific presentations.

If you...

  1. Hold a Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering with 5-10 years of research and development experience in chemical reaction and process engineering related areas.
  2. Own experience in chemical reaction and process engineering involving: deep understanding and modeling experience of mass/heat transfer and reaction kinetics, model development and optimization of single and multi-phase industrial reactors, and overall process flow sheet simulation including typical chemical process unit operations such as distillation, heat exchanger, extraction, and stripping.
  3. Possess experience in designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting industrial reactors and processes.
  4. Have experience in laboratory or pilot scale reactors and development of Design of Experiments (DOE).
  5. Are proficient in modeling tools such as Aspen Plus, COMSOL, gPROMS, Matlab, and others.
  6. Possess methodological background in problem identification and solving, long-term developments, and supervision of lab experiments.
  7. Demonstrate a customer-oriented approach and excellent communication skills to cultivate collaborative partnerships with internal teams and establish valuable connections with external research groups at universities.
  8. Are comfortable working in multinational teams and preferably possessing international experience.
