POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

THE ROLE

The Department of Technology Services is looking for a SharePoint - Power BI Developer (Information Technology Analyst 2) to develop and support SharePoint, Power BI, O365 and Visual Studio applications. This role will also provide technical support and perform business analyst roles throughout the DOT Division of Technology Services.

As a SharePoint - Power BI Developer, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of new end user applications and tools for data consumption and visualization. In the application technical support role, the SharePoint - Power BI Developer will maintain existing applications, dashboards, provide post implementation support to applications and data tools and provide training when required. As a business analyst, this person will evaluate business requirements and will design customized applications and tools.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency Information Technology (IT) environment this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of information technology tasks and project coordination work involving infrastructure systems support, security and application development in an IT environment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

For All Functional Areas:

  1. Acts as liaison to hardware and/or software vendors, system developers, programmers and user community;
  2. Evaluates and recommends products;
  3. Participates in Request for Proposal (RFP) process;
  4. Assists in estimating cost for annual budget;
  5. Identifies and implements opportunities for cost savings;
  6. Conducts system performance analysis, tuning and storage management;
  7. Assists staff and customers in use of computer systems and software packages;
  8. Trains operators, IT staff and end users on new procedures;
  9. Participates in recovery activities;
  10. Participates in the evaluation of new, related technologies;
  11. Analyzes requirements and designs systems;
  12. Participates in or coordinates project planning sessions with customers, analysts and team members to analyze requirements and provide design recommendations for moderately complex systems;
  13. Provides technical consultation on moderately complex issues regarding the usage of the infrastructure, integration of applications systems into the infrastructure, etc.;
  14. Participates in system integration testing of operating system, system utilities, hardware upgrades as well as new software and hardware technologies;
  15. Works with project team to define and design scope for each project;
  16. Plans, coordinates and schedules assigned projects;
  17. Coordinates resources for projects;
  18. Ensures timely completion of all phases of projects;
  19. Evaluates and recommends vendors;
  20. Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  1. Considerable knowledge of IT equipment and diagnostic tools;
  2. Considerable knowledge of principles and techniques of systems analysis, design, development and programming;
  3. Considerable knowledge of principles of information systems;
  4. Considerable knowledge of principles and theories of business and planning functions;
  5. Considerable knowledge of programming languages;
  6. Considerable knowledge of capabilities of computer technology;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Six (6) years of experience in information technology (IT) operations, programming, systems/software development or another IT-related support area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General Experience must have been performing professional information technology work in such areas as: installation and support of microcomputer hardware, software and operating systems; analysis, design and development of information systems; network hardware and software installation and support; network hardware and/or software problem diagnosis and resolution; performing any closely related professional IT function.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  1. College training in management information systems, computer science or information technology-related area may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
  2. A Master's degree in management information systems, computer science or electrical engineering may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience with Office 365 applications.
  2. Experience provisioning and configuring SharePoint Lists.
  3. Experience integrating and extending SharePoint out of the box functionality using Power Automate.
  4. Experience providing guidance and best practices regarding SharePoint Online.
  5. Experience troubleshooting SharePoint issues.
  6. Experience building data models, dashboards and reports using Power BI.
  7. Experience building Power Automate flows.
  8. Experience writing applications with Visual Studio or VS Code.
