Position Description

Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a Systems Engineer, a position that requires interaction with a broad range of professionals, to join our team. We are looking for a results-oriented, service-focused Systems Engineer to bring bold new ideas, courage, and a pioneering spirit to invent the future, and have fun along the way. The Systems Engineer leads and/or assists in developing, maintaining, and supporting the university’s cloud services and system software – focusing on Microsoft 365 technologies (e.g., Copilot, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Outlook). As a Systems Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team of engineers who help each other build and grow technical and leadership skills while creating, deploying, and supporting production services.

This position is eligible for a flexible work schedule (e.g., shifted hours, partial remote (1 day onsite per week minimum)). Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manages Microsoft 365 suite and related products, such as SharePoint, Teams (including calling), OneDrive, Exchange Online, and Azure Active Directory.
  • Supports the creation of scripts and tools that drive automation and enable product teams and end users to move towards self-service.
  • Opens and manages problem tickets with vendors, as necessary or appropriate, to achieve goals or bring problems to resolution.
  • Produces and updates in-house documentation around solutions. Maintains an ongoing improvement mindset, proactively helping teammates via systems and process improvement suggestions and ideas, and keeps leadership informed so that together, adverse trends or concerns may be identified and efficiently ameliorated.
  • Actively participates with team(s) in root cause analysis, debugging, support review, post-incident analysis, and corrective action planning before, during, and after security incidents and service interruptions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • A combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position such as those listed above.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues related to Microsoft 365 products and their integrations.
  • Strong technical skills and an inquisitive and positive nature.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation and a commitment to service.
  • A self-starter with attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to adhere to project specifications and timelines.
  • Desire to learn and grow.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of Microsoft Teams architecture, configuration, and management, including user provisioning, security settings, and compliance features.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite and related products, such as SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and Azure Active Directory.
  • Experience managing all aspects of Microsoft 365 including Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, and Azure Active Directory.
  • Experience with process improvement methods and tools.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $78,500 - $89,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
