Robotic Welder - Programmer Position Summary: The Robotic Welder - Programmer works with minimal instruction to perform a variety of welding processes and methods to weld all types of metals and alloys of various shapes, sizes, and thicknesses as needed for projects by means of programming the robotic welder and manual welding.
Robotic Welder - Programmer Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform robotic welding and maintain logs for all new programs.
  • Inspect all welds for defects.
  • Perform and log all maintenance on the robot.
  • Log all consumable usage of robot.
  • Build jigs and fixtures.
  • Work to increase the amount of arc time over previous year.
  • Blow out/clean robot on a weekly basis.
  • Create visual work instructions for all new programs.
  • Work with Maintenance Department to build fixtures and to better utilize the robot's turntable.
  • Perform manual welding on parts the robot is unable to weld.
  • Communicate with support staff.
  • Ensure robot weld settings are within the WPS.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Welder Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Use a variety of welding processes and methods to weld all types of metals to perform complete part fabrication in compliance with company quality standards.
  • Complete fit-up of accessories and tanks.
  • Welds in flat, horizontal and vertical positions.
  • Identify various metals and alloys such as mild strength steel, aluminum, and stainless.
  • Use measuring devices and gauges to determine thickness and size of metal.
  • Use oxygen/acetylene torch for cutting metals.
  • Use a grinder and other hand or power tools required to grind, bevel, or fit metals together, and remove slag.
  • Read and follow blueprints to determine structure or fit of parts that are being welded and are in compliance with the Method of Production Standard.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follow prescribed safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of MOP and SWI.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Robotic Welder - Programmer Skills and Specifications:
  • Proficient knowledge of welding procedures, practices, symbols, and techniques required to weld and/or fuse metals together.
  • Knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools associated with welding, such as chipping hammer, grinder, arc welder, and oxygen/acetylene torch including setup or connection of hoses, cords, and regulators.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blue prints and/or sketches.
  • Knowledge and ability to use common measuring instruments and hand tools such as tape measure, level, square file or rasp.
  • Solid problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to contribute and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness to ensure first quality of work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with people in the course of work.
  • Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift.
Robotic Welder - Programmer Education and Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Certification from a trade or welding institute is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate welding proficiencies through Visual & Fillet break or Radiography testing and be able to successfully perform Flux Core, Sub Arc or Gas Metal Arc welds in 1 through 3 groove positions.
Robotic Welder - Programmer Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of Robotic Welder - Programmer, the employee is continually required to stand; walk; use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel and occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Robotic Welder - Programmer Work Environment:
  • While performing the duties of Robotic Welder - Programmer, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
