Summary of Position

The Applications Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise related to the use of Silfab’s solar products. This role involves collaborating with customers, sales, and product development teams to ensure that our solar products meet customer needs and performance specifications. The Applications Engineer will work to assist customers by providing relevant product specifications, certifications, and testing documentation required for successful integration into the complete solar system. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support to customers, addressing inquiries related to solar panel performance, installation, and integration.
  • Assist in the development of technical documentation, including datasheets, installation guides, and application notes.
  • Engage with customers to understand their requirements in terms of product specification and performance.
  • Provide technical support across the full range of Silfab’s products including residential, commercial, and utility products.
  • Utilize system simulation tools to model system performance and provide feedback to customers that enhance performance and system energy yield (software examples: PVSyst, Aurora).
  • Work closely with the product development team to provide feedback on product performance and suggest improvements based on customer experiences and field data.
  • Develop application notes and other product documentation that highlight technical product performance, address specific use environments, and other application-specific requirements.
  • Ensure our modules are compatible with system components including racking and inverters.
  • Coordinate all relevant mechanical testing to ensure compatibility with various racking solutions.
  • Stay current with industry trends, standards, and technological advancements to ensure the company’s offerings remain competitive and effective.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues related to solar panel systems including permitting requirements, performance issues, and installation challenges.
  • Work closely with sales and marketing teams to gather customer feedback, understand market dynamics, and drive product improvements.
  • Support due diligence efforts by providing technical documentation and product testing data to customers and independent engineering firms.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending technical conferences/trade shows, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as required.

Qualifications:

Skills

  • Strong understanding of solar products and technology.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels within the company.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and effectively allocate resources.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Knowledge of solar industry standards and regulations, such as IEC and UL certifications, is preferred.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in the solar industry or related role.
