Our Engineering Management team at RWE Offshore Wind is looking for an Project Engineer - Certification with a solid technical background to drive our offshore development activities and future construction activities.

This role will focus on our Community Offshore Wind project off the coast of New York and New Jersey. Community Offshore Wind is a Joint Venture with National Grid Venture and is one of the largest offshore wind farms development areas in the United States and within RWE's global portfolio.

This role will initially focus on setting up and coordinating the project certification and verification requirements with extensive coordination with the appointed project Certification Verification Authority (CVA).

This position is expected to be based in our Boston area office 3 days a week to collaborate in person with the project team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and enhance the Project Certification strategy and set up certification strategies on future projects.
  • Day-to-day management of the certification process, closely liaising with the Certifier, Designer, and other third parties (including regional authorities and regulators) to ensure the project is certified in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Support the Design and Engineering Managers in decision making regarding certification strategy.
  • Ensuring technical issues are identified, understood, and addressed with a focus on the optimization of Levelized Cost of Energy (LCoE).
  • Develop the CVA scope of work and manage the exchange of information, documentation, and follow-up required to complete the CVA process.
  • Support the development and completion of the Site Assessment Plans (SAP), Construction and Operations Plan (COP), Facility Design Report (FDR), Facility Installation Report (FIR).
  • Primary point of contact for any regulatory-related design issues within the team, and is tasked to interface and resolve any items.
  • Manage the interface with CVA, the project team, and the project design and construction contractors.
  • Ensure CVA, safety, and certification requirements are included in any design or construction contracts.
  • Provide general project engineering support as needed to one or more projects.

Minimum qualifications

  • Engineering degree from an accredited university in a relevant background (civil/mechanical/structural/ocean/naval/electrical).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the development & construction of large infrastructure projects within the Offshore Wind, Onshore Wind, Solar, Oil, or Gas industries.
  • Demonstrated past experience with either offshore wind or similar energy-related industries (technical, development, project management, and commercial).
  • Demonstrated engineering design experience and leading cross-functional engineering team projects.
  • Familiar with Certification Verification Authority (CVA) process with BSSE.
  • Familiar with safety in design.
  • Familiar with industry codes and standards applicable to offshore wind projects.
  • Willing to perform relevant offshore safety trainings and "go" offshore for certain activities.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

Preferred qualifications

  • 2+ years of offshore wind experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or on path to obtain.
  • Project Management Professional certification or similar.
  • A strong understanding of the offshore wind market.
  • Good organizational skills and experience of project management.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Results-oriented and commercial mindset, ability to analyze and summarize complex development topics and aggregate decision-relevant information to convey messages clearly and concisely.
  • Proven experience, ability to build and develop high-performance teams and to motivate, acting comfortably in cross-cultural teams, collaborating across country boundaries with a sense of diversity and inclusion.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with people on different levels of hierarchy, different backgrounds, and cultures, must be a team player.
  • Excellent understanding of technical analysis and specifically of competitive drivers that can help win projects in very competitive tender environments.
  • Strong track record in successful engineering construction management and good knowledge of all wind farm package areas and their interdependencies.
  • Willingness to innovate and challenge the status quo with a continuous-improvement mindset.
