Location: San Diego, CA/Remote (Daybreak Approved Remote Locations: CA, WA, TX, NY)

Salary Range: $40,000 - $60,000, pay may vary by location.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Daybreak and Darkpaw Games are looking for a talented Associate Software Engineer to help tackle the massive codebase of EverQuest and build new features. If you have a knack for problem-solving, translating English into C++, and a passion for tinkering, then come help us continue the legacy of EverQuest!

Your Contribution

  • Writing and testing solid, reliable, and efficient code for highly scalable systems
  • Working with designers and artists to create, optimize, and maintain game systems and custom tools
  • Efficiently self-managing to balance working independently and with other developers
  • Documenting complex systems in a clear manner for others to rely on as a reference

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience playing EverQuest
  • Self-starter attitude
  • B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years software engineering experience
  • Ability to communicate complex processes clearly
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Working proficiency in C++
  • Understanding of object-oriented software engineering principles

Year-1 Success

  • Become familiar with the EverQuest codebase
  • Engage in the software development lifecycle of gathering requirements, planning, implementation, testing, and releasing
  • Participate in team meetings and bring ideas for discussion
  • Clearly communicate with other developers to resolve roadblocks
