Job Title: Middleware Engineering - Database Operations Support
Location: Salt Lake City, UT (Onsite, 5 days per week)
Contract Duration: December 2024 – June 2025
Pay Rate: $47.00/hour
We are seeking a skilled Middleware Engineering - Database Operations Support professional to join a leading financial services organization. This is a full-time, onsite position in Salt Lake City, UT, with responsibilities that involve supporting the firm’s global database infrastructure. The role requires a deep understanding of database administration, operational support, and troubleshooting in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 24x7 operational support for various database platforms including Sybase ASE, Sybase IQ, DB2, Postgres, Hadoop, MSSQL, MongoDB, Oracle.
- Perform database administration tasks such as monitoring, health checks, replication alerts, and user provisioning.
- Conduct system troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance tuning to ensure database availability and efficiency.
- Manage hardware environments including Sun and Dell servers, and administer databases on Red Hat Linux and Solaris.
- Handle database provisioning, upgrades, and patches to maintain the database infrastructure.
- Coordinate with IT and application support teams to address and resolve critical requests.
- Participate in business continuity testing and manage small project initiatives such as database migrations and end-of-life software updates.
- Schedule and manage maintenance jobs using Autosys and other scheduling tools.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in database administration or operational support.
- Hands-on experience with Sybase ASE, DB2, replication technologies (SQL Rep, Q Rep), and high availability (HADR).
- Proficient in Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) and Solaris environments.
- Strong understanding of clustering, failover, and performance tuning techniques.
- Experience with job scheduling tools like Autosys and cron.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with global teams.
- Willingness to work weekend shifts (Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday).
Education:
- High School Diploma required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
